Green Schools

The new school year is in full swing, and many parents, teachers, and administrators are thinking about ways to keep our kids healthier. More and more concern is focusing on the school environment--from lunch menus to the air our kids are breathing in the classroom.

"Classroom supplies, school buses, building maintenance, indoor air quality, books and pencils--everything about a school can affect the environment or the people who spend time in school. But there are lots of new ways that schools can be greener such as 'clean diesel' buses, recycling, or safer chemicals in classrooms," EPA officials wrote in the agency's Greenconversations blog.

Then they followed up with the question: "What did you or your school do to be greener this year?"

EcoQuest Dealers are taking the Fresh Air indoor air purifier to schools all over the world. Janette and Edward Vooren are doing their part in Holland. They test the indoor air quality in classrooms. Craig Garvaglia is doing the same in Wisconsin, as are other Dealers.

Our kids spend a good part of their day in school environments. Shouldn't we monitor their classroom environment as well as we guard their home environment?
