A Thanksgiving Gift

My father's birthday is November 21st. My earliest memories of him were of the joy his birthday brought - not because of the gifts - but because of the family that gathered, usually at Thanksgiving. It was the beginning of the season he loved best - Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was a large man - a formidable figure to most - with large blue eyes that seemed to sparkle like a child's when he was in the presence of his family and a home cooked meal.

My father would have been 68 years old...God took him 12 years ago after a long battle with diabetes. He lived to see all his children happily married and gave all his grandchildren hugs and kisses before he left this earth. In memory of my father, I dedicate this song....

May it remind you of the beautiful gifts God has given us - even if they are only our health and our family. We must always be thankful...always.

What a wonderful tribute to a beloved father. Ironically, my father's birthday is also November 21. Thanks for the post and the very appropriate song.

We lost my dad 2 weeks after my second daughter was born in 2002. He wasn't given the chance to fight the cancer that took him from this earth. I treasure the memories I have and emrace the time I have left with each and every person I can touch in this life. Thanks for sharing!

Jennifer - I'm sure you see your dad everytime you look into your daughter's eyes. I know I see my dad in my youngest, too. God gives us those special memories to hold onto and enjoy for as long as we are apart from our loved ones. Thanks so much for sharing your story and Happy Thanksgiving!

What a lovely photo, Irene. Did you shoot that? It would look great on the cover of a magazine. I didn't listen to the song, though, because I don't want to wake up my cats . . .

Elizabeth - Thank you! Yes, I did shoot the photo from the sunroof of my car on my way to take the kids to school one morning a few weeks ago. It's the street I live on and the sun was shining so brightly that it was surreal hitting against the colorful leaves. The song just tugged at my heartstrings. It is very powerful. I hope you had a very Happy Thanksgiving!
