Are You on Facebook? Come Find Me!

Well, I gave in last night, and joined the ever looming, Facebook.  Are you on Facebook?

Thus far, it's a tad frustrating as every time I want to make a change to my profile, previous information disappears or changes.  For example, it didn't like my Re/Max office name.  It kept trying to put me in the Lubbock office.  Huh?  Also, instead of Re/Max, it had me working at my first brokerage, Ebby Halliday.  I had to change this 6 times for it to stick.

It took me some time, but I found a Re/Max group, and I also found the Realtor Referral group.  I'm hoping to expand my exposure for referrals.  However, when doing searches to find other Realtors, do you realize how un-user friendly this site is?

It's like all the site wants to do is hook me up with high school people.  Yeah, it's nice to see some old faces again, but am I going to hit the "add friend" button for everyone?  What if they reject me?  What if old high school grudges come back?

I've already cringed at quite a few people.  I'm wondering if I would accept their invitation if they invited me as a friend.  On that flip, I'm wondering if I invited someone I haven't seen in 15 years to be a friend, would they accept me?

The jury is still out, but I would love to connect with some ActiveRain people on Facebook if you're out there?  I'm under Donna Richey Harris.

Donna, keep us all posted on your experience here. Some Realtors join this, others shy away from it as too social and not professional.

Gary, Jeff, and Lisa,  Thus far, I'm feeling very popular.  I've already got 15 friends.  Messages from people who I wouldn't have approached, but glad they approached me.  It's a self-esteem building site to see how much confidence you have in approaching old friends.

I just joined on Saturday and am a little taken back by it so far.  It will take some getting used to but I think it will be worth it.

The first thing I noticed about it is how it makes Classmates.com obsolete.

I'm still waiting to find out what happens when/if I reject a friend request.  I wouldn't want it to send an email to someone asking them what makes them think I'll talk to them now if I hated them in high school!  Okay, maybe it would just let them know I rejected the friend request.

Amanda, I had that issue this evening. I got a request from someone I hated!  I emailed another friend and asked what proper ettiquete was.  She said that was ages ago, and to put the past in the past and move forward, so I accepted the invite.  Since there is an "ignore" option, I assume it sends a message rejecting the invite, and then you'll never hear from them again.

Greg, That's what it kept trying to do, but with Lubbock after it, no matter how I wrote Re/Max, RE/Max, RE/MAX... so instead, I wrote just plain Remax and it let me write my office name.

Amanda, Way toooo many Amanda Hall's on that site.  I can't find you.

Donna, I'll find you instead. I thought about hyphenating but if you saw what my hyphenated name looks like, it would blow your mind.  I am a serial bride.

Amanda, LMAO, that's funny!  My mom has been married 4 times.  After the third divorce, I told her, Three strikes and you're out, but I guess you can have one more chance at bat.  Now, it's been almost 14 years on round 4.

Did your mom get married in a Vegas drive thru?  Let's just say that what happens in Vegas, doesn't always stay in Vegas.  Just sayin'.

Facebook has been great to me. I am reconnected with people that honestly have forgotten all these years. It's so nice to pick up where we left off. I love FB.

It's pretty interesting over there.  With one full day on Facebook, I have 29 friends.  A few of people I never would have thought would have approached me.  1 in particular, was my best friend, and we had a falling out years ago.  I couldn't believe she had the nerve, and it took me a couple of hours to hit the accept button, but I'm not sure how old, pent up anger is supposed to go away like that... we'll see...

HI Donna.  I am actually on facebook.  Interesting story... similar to the one you posted about Robert.  My half sister found me on facebook.  We didn't have any contact since I was 16 (almost 20 years ago).  Long story, but that was the short version.  Anyway, we talk now and she is doing great.  If I had not signed up to facebook, we would have never reconnected.  Plus, I have found some friends from YEARS ago and some from high school.  Sure, its for networking, but I have had a lot of success connecting with great people from my past.
