Okay here is the deal. There's an associate of mine that works for a different company. She was fired from that company. When she was in training months ago. She made a comment to another new agent. She asked the agent would she pretend to be a buyer so she could get listing from fsbos. This was almost 6 months ago. Since then she has been getting to notch listing and buyers. So the other new agent tells the office manager that the only reason that the lady was getting the listing is because she has people pretend to buyers. Which of course gets her foot in the door. Everyone at this office is slow now. So long story short she didn't deny that she made the comment. The broker fired her not because she did it but because she was thinking about doing it. Does this make any sense to anyone.
Give me break. She never did it, your boss need to mellow out.

I can see where you are coming from Karen. That's why this blogging thing is great.
Michelle, we may all do stupid stuff - mistakes - but deliberately lying is wrong, and is not an accident or mistake but a conscious decision - even a nine year old knows that.
Nope, it's agents like that who give the rest of us a bad rap. perhaps getting fired will help her to straighten up and not be unethical in the future.
That's right Karen...agents like this do give honest, hardworking agents a bad rap. I have known some grimy agents in my experience, but I have also known some "grindas" who just worked diligently, and honestly until they started to reap the benefits of their labor.
Hi Michelle,
Thanks for the interesting post.
As a broker myself, I've terminated only a few in over 30 years. However with that said,..acting dishonestly under any situation like this is absolutely NOT acceptable. The broker also has a responsibiliyt to everyone else in your office. So, if it's o.k. for one person to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the truth, how about every one else?
I think that broker should be congratulated! Sorry to say, I've seen too many brokers look the other way, especially with a high producer. NOT acceptable!
Lynda I agree but how is it okay for some and not for others. Prime example there has been some SHADY crap going on at this company and because it's the multi million dollar a month agents it just pushed under the rug time after time
Doesn't make it right, but it is happening. Deceptive and unethical practices make it much more difficult for the rest of us to justify commissions, convey value, build the relationship, etc. Realtors have joined forces and work hard to raise the level of professionalism and validity in the eyes of the public. Let's not loose that.
Well, the fact is - she tried to get a fellow agent to lie in order to secure a listing. That's what's in her heart - deception is an okay means to an end. "A bad idea" is an understatement (kind of like calling a lie a "fib" or a "white lie" to soften it a bit...it's still a lie.) If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck...could it be a robin? No. It's a duck.
Perhaps the contract she has with her broker allows the broker to terminate the contract for a situation such as this. And like I said - getting fired could be the best thing for her. Maybe she'll be more ethical in the future. I am one who does believe a leopard can change his spots... (then again, maybe they just get better camouflage...)
Hi Michelle,
Slow-sales or million dollar month, that's NO excuse for any of it. If you truly feel other "SHADY crap" as you put it is being swept under the rug, I think I'd definitely talk to the broker about it. And it's not right for some, but not others. There is nothing wrong with questioning things in your office. He/she may be able to shed some light on the situation for you, or even possibly understand that the playing field is not level.
Good luck and let us know!
