Self-Pity

"I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself."  D. H. Lawrence

Self-pity comes in spurts..with media..with projections..with speculations..funny thing..if only we did more..if only we made things happen...take the high road rather than cry that pity party or play the blame game.  Hasn't 2008 been rough enough?  And to think we could not wait for 2007 to end! :)

Enough with the blame...its time to move on..and truly get to work..the elections are over..the bail out..inevitable...ladies and gentlemen it is what it is...so what are you going to do about it to change it? Probably not much but what are you going to do to make it bearable for you to live with?

Here are a few suggestions..

Why not really educate yourself?  With training..about short sales and short mortgages and loan modifications..if we really cared about the people we service in our profession we would really take this time to educate ourselves after all we do talk about giving the best possible customer service in town, right?

Why not TRY to be 2009's media coverage for your area in real estate?  Places to go, things to do, successful sales that you have..maybe educating buyers and sellers..or even those wonderful market reports.

Why not TRY mix old school thoughts with modern day methods? With farming, with on line marketing and a great follow up plan..mixed with a with some self promotion and good old fashioned networking..don't forget those updated business cards and name tags too!

Why not get in front of more people?  Using a variety of methods... maybe methods you might find outdated by attending functions at your local boards, community events, local businesses and just chatting it up with your neighbors.  Pick up the phone, heck connect with classmates..get in front of more people..they can only spread your good name around!

Why not talk about the benefits about buying real estate today?  tax benefits, a place to call home, a stake in some land, the American Dream.  People dream about this all their lives..remind them it can be a reality..be proud of what you do..and why you do it every day.

I don't know about you but I love my profession..and just like a marriage..I am committed...there is no way..I'm going to let media or government or my peers affect 2009 for me....because if I have to do different things to get different results.  Guess what I will!

If you are in then jump in..."Hello 2009..whatever you have planned??????"...Be Forewarned...I'm a wild thing and a wild thing never feels sorry for themselves!  We just find new ways!"

Great suggestions, Midori. Getting known and respected as the expert in your area isn't easy, but it can be done with a little hard work. Then, keeping a positive attitude and tapping your creative juices can catapult you to the top.

Midori~ I LOVE this post! I too am a believer in positive thinking and crying "poor me" all the time. Like you said, it is what it is...I think I say this to at least five people a day and will continue to do so! Thanks for the positive thinking...let's spread it around!

Midori, Your intro is spoken like a true perfectionist. LOL.

BTW, when I woke up this morning, (this is really random) I suddenly realized your name is 2 types of alcohol. LOL! So was that a coincidence?

Thanks Midori, I appreciate the post and thanks for taking time to give suggestions.  I work everyday at improving my skills and staying on top of my attitude.  One thing I've learned is, my attitude is not automatic, I'm in charge of it everyday.  So, since I'm in charge of it, I choose to make it positive.  Best to you, if I can ever help you here in Dalton Ga. please let me know.

Wow, where did this year go.  It's time to get serious about the holiday season rather than continue to complain about the stores starting so early.

We need you to visit Hawaii and kick a few agents in the pants here.  Then again those who are not doing those things are creating more opportunities for the rest of us.

Hi Midori! Define 'wild!!' Do you mean wild like a ride on a cowboy horse? Appreciate your pep talk, as always. Don't feel sorry for me! I enjoy each and every day.

407 days until 2010.

I would like to find a time machine to leap over 2009 and get right to 2010.

Perhaps some of the real estate trends will then be on the upswing.

WoW, Midori....this is an amazing post!!!!! I'm going to feature this in the Inspiration Group as soon as I'm finished leaving my comment. Everyone needs to read this (flagging this too).

I was just thinking about the new year and beginning my business plan for 2009 while I was laying in bed after first waking this morning, so your post is timed perfectly for me. I have to bookmark and digest it some more when I have time later today...

thanks for sharing your incredible wisdom and optimism!

I have good friend who teaches at the az school of real estate, and he told me that attendence at training classes are up as agents are using this time, when they have too much of it,  to improve themselves for 2009

I completely agree mindset and positive thinking are a must to business success.  We cannot wallow in the stink weed if we are to convert our dreams into a reality.  I know first hand the lethargy and apathy that can come from being around people who are not optimistic and from allowing myself to be a victim.    I found, that by constantly viewing and listening to people who have accomplished a alot, that my ability to bounce back has been quicker and higher.  A great resource I personally used was the Mike Ferry Organization.  Also, another self-development resource I use is www.iLearningGlobal.tv.  and www.TheEducatedEntrepreneur.com

Hi Midori~ There is no time to wallow in self pity! Life is too short to be miserable with your job.  Those that are miserable should just move on and do something they LOVE!

Great ARticle Midori. Social Networking is a must for a realtor and the 2.0 realtor should be doing this regardless of the technology avaiable to them. What we see now is a lot of realtors saying they'll start blogging in 2009 when some form of social interaction online with others has been around even before AOL came about. Love your new featured post btw! :)   Here's hoping for a happy 2009 for you Midori. You are a beatiful person inside and out. Keep up the good work and thank you for everything you provide your subscribers (we're one of them). We appreciate it!!!

Sincerely, Active Castellum ( CAstellum Realty llc - Lancaster PA Real Estate )
