The countdown starts today; Thanksgiving is only a week away.

We didn't have Thanksgiving in Europe.  This is strictly an American Holiday, but what a lovely celebration it is!  A fine time to spend with those we are closest to...

If you have a special tradition you share with your family at Thanksgiving, please share that with us!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm such a blonde!  I had a very nasty funny picture that I didn't realize was nasty until I looked at it more carefully after posting the blog.  For the first 12 hits on this blog:  Oops!

For the Serial Monogamy & Real Estate Members - the previous version is on our board.   What kind of stir do you think that picture would have caused?  I really didn't realize what the meaning of it was until I really looked at it and thought about the meaning of the birds getting ready for the stuffing...  I'm really S   L   O    W   sometimes...

Dinah Lee:  Thank you!  I liked that one too!  I had no idea that our Canadian compadres have their Thanksgiving in October!  Thanks for sharing!

What's your special family tradition at Thanksgiving, Dinah Lee?

This not funny, but it's a true story.

In 1970 when I arrived in the U.S.A., I had just started dating a man who was the product of his southern upbringing in north Florida, and as deep south as one can get in bordering towns of Georgia, Alabama and Florida.

When it came time to eat, the women who were doing all the cooking, had the men sit in the dining room, and the children in an adjoining table. The women did not sit down until everyone was served, and then they sat around the kitchen table, practically eating leftovers!

I may not have grown up in the U.S.A. but I was deeply insulted. On the way home, I told my date that if he should ever invite me to another family gathering again, that I expect to be seated at the table with the men AND the women.

This was the time before the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) movement which, unless I'm mistaken, was never passed.

Good Morning Mirela - I love the bathing beauty turkey, lol.   One tradition that has always been a part of my Thanksgiving is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, NYC.   (never saw it in person even though I lived an hour from the city)     A few years ago I added a new tradition - The 'Blessing of the Hounds' on Thanksgiving morning in our Hitchcock Woods.   (now I record the parade and watch it after The Blessing)       And definitely FOOTBALL!!!          Enjoy your day :)

Oh... poor big bird!  I didn't grow up with Thanksgiving neither but think it's a wonderful occasion and a great way to start the holiday season.  Thanks for the chuckles this morning!

Thanksgiving is always mashed rutabagas and my famous apple pies for dessert.

Thanks for the post!  I thought the picture with the blind farmer and the turkeys "mooing" was priceless.

Pretty great!

Loved the Big Bird turkey and the mooing turkeys. My wife made the bikini clad turkey last year by covering the bird using aluminum foil shaped like a bikini. Everyone loved it.

Thanks for the cartoons!

Aloha Mirela,

Thanks for the comics, it's always good to laugh. I guess I'm most thankful for NOT being a turkey, poor delicious creatures.

Peace,

I'm from Europe too.  But I love Thanksgiving - I think partly becuase it give you the chance to spend time in the beautiful fall weather after stuffying yourself silly!  Love the cartoons - the Big Bird was funny but sad as I love Big Bird!
