Yellow Flowers

Have you ever been tagged by a 'meme'?  I've been tagged numerous times here in the Rain, and a couple of times outside as well.  Some are fun, some cause me to struggle to think about just what to write that any one would care to read.

This week must be my 'lucky' week for some reason.  I was tagged twice for 2 different memes, once for this 'bookworm meme' by our sweet Texas friend Linda Scanlan, and for the "friendship ball - I hate memes' meme by our Miami Shores dynamo, Ines.  I still have to put that one together - I promise I will!

Anyway, this one is a book worm meme, and it's got 6 very simple rules:

  • 1. Grab the nearest book.
  • 2. Open the book to page 56.
  • 3. Find the fifth sentence.
  • 4. Post the text of the next two to five sentences.
  • 5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book or the intellectual one. Pick the Closest.
  • 6. Tag five people to do the same

Easy enough, right?  Well, when I saw what the closest books were to me when I read this post, I quickly thought I should get up and go find another one.  And then I thought that's not really right, so I'll stick to the rules and give you the info on the closest book to me.  It's actually from 2 books because they were both on top of each other and both fell in my lap when I reached for one.

The first book is from my grief counseling group that I go to once a week. Many of you know I lost my honey this summer, and I had that book nearby because we have homework each week we're supposed to do.  This book is called "Your Journey From Mourning to Joy".  Here is what is on page 56, that is the 5th sentence:

"I feel like no one truly understands my loneliness.  I feel off balance and falling without the support of my lost loved one.  But You have called me to be part of a community and to see life from a greater, eternal perspective.  I have to get out there and accept the support that's available."

The other book that fell into my lap as I reached was "I Love You, Ronnie".  It's interesting as Bear gave me this book for Christmas a couple of years ago.  This is a book of love letters from Ronald Reagan to his wife Nancy.  Here's what is on page 56 of this book:

"Each time he passed through there (Albuquerque NM), whether heading east or going west, he'd send me a telegram:  POWDER DOWN YOUR LIPSTICK.  I AM ON THE DOWNHILL SIDE OF ALBUQUERQUE. I LOVE YOU.   DID YOU EVER GET THE FEELING YOU'VE BEEN SOMEWHERE BEFORE?  I AM GOING IN A CIRCLE.  I AM ALSO IN LOVE..."

So, now comes the fun part - tagging FIVE others to play along with this bookworm meme!  Here they are:

Have fun!!  Post a link to your meme here in the comments so we don't miss reading it!

Ann-as tears are rolling down my face..you little brat...you tagged me...I promise to do it tonight..because in my office there are no books around me...just paperwork...files..and some great pics and memento's....

I am so happy to see you out and about and really giving it a go....and embracing life...you are truly a real inspiration to me.  Brave...wise...and skinny...did I say hot? Yes Ann..you truly are one remarkable lady....

It doesn't surprise me the books you are reading...I knew long ago..our very first encounter..just what a class act you are...and to think to me...the Nancy and Ronald Reagan...love story...is so captivating...and so filled...with love...warmth...and joy..between a man and a woman.

BTW..I was thinking about NAR..and our goodbye...was memorable to me!  To touch..to embrace...I'm really serious about a trip in 2009 in your neck of the woods!

Ann - How wonderful are your books! Grief counseling is a good thing to do...  Also, what a love story of the Reagan's!  One of these days....

Thanks for playing!

Ann, tagged twice! You poor thing or you could look at it as being loved twice as much. Keeps a girl busy with all these MeMe's doesn't it?

Got mine done for the 2nd time after managing to erase the 1st one accidently...hate that when it happens. Mine is at The Bookworm MeMe...The Shake

I found the book The Shake to be very helpful to me. I'm sure that when you read the right book or the right chapters you may find the help to ease the pain. It takes time, my friend.

Hi Ann, I arrived her via tagging my friend Gena Reide and wanted to learn about who she tagged. This is a very personal and moving post and that sentence is extremely profound. I am sorry to hear of your loss and hope you are managing through it all.

So far you are the first person I have met in New Hampshire so I look forward to learning more through your blog. I hope you have a good weekend!

Hi Katerina - I just re-read those words with what you wrote in mind as I do so, and you're right!  I never thought about it that way, but that's exactly what so many feel here.  Very thankful to be part of this community!

My nearest book was a school coupon book local schools sell as a fundraiser, on page 56 is:

    "$1.00 off Adult Ticket

Receive one dollar off one adult ticket to the 2008 Fantasy of Trees to benefit Children's Hospital. Event takes place Nov. 26-30, at the Knoxville convention Center, Henley Street at Clinch Avenue."

Hi Tim - do your meme from home then!  This one takes very little time, just grab the closest book, find page 56, count down to the passage it says, put it in your meme, go find 5 people to tag, and you're done!  Easy as that!

That is one powerful page 56! Most of the time, they just make no sense, but that sentence is powerful and speaks volumes about the book. We all have had loss at sometime in our life and we all feel that no one else understands our feelings. Clearly this book makes you feel not so along in this world when you seem to be at your darkest hour.

Hi Todd - thanks for reading and commenting.  This book is a very good book, and you're right about that section being pretty powerful.  In the last 3 years, I've lost my mom, my grandfather (my mom's dad), and this year I lost my significant other.  I'd had other losses in the past, and I can tell you that this loss, the loss of my 'spouse' of 17 years, was like none of the others combined, and has been quite devastating to me.  This book is very good, and that particular section is especially appropros.

    Thanks again for your comment,
    Ann
