florida-museum.jpgOne of the finest museums in Pinellas County is located at 244 Second Avenue, North in St. Petersburg. The Florida International Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and plays host to a constant stream of world-class traveling exhibitions you can’t see just anywhere. From a priceless collection of Russian treasures owned by the ill-fated Romanovs to items reclaimed from the wreck of the Titanic, this renowned museum always has something exciting to see.

The Florida International Museum most recently hosted an exhibit of treasures from the Vatican. These treasures are rarely seen outside of the confines of Vatican City. It speaks volumes of the museum’s reputation for excellence that these priceless artifacts were allowed to travel to St. Petersburg to be shown there.

The museum hosts special events throughout the year, and is a frequent destination for school field trips. It has a full offering of educational services for area schools, and local teachers often use the museum as a resource. In addition to its educational services, the museum offers memberships to patrons. These memberships come with a variety of benefits, depending on the membership level chosen. Benefits range from discounts at the museum store to season passes to the current exhibits.

The Florida International Museum is open seven days a week, from 9am to 9pm Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm on Saturday, and 11am to 6pm on Sunday. Tickets are $20 for adults, $13 for children to age 12, and $17 for seniors age 62 and older. Discounts are available for military personnel and museum members.  Groups of 15 or more qualify for special rates, so be sure to call in advance. Tours of the exhibits take approximately 2 hours, and are well worth every minute.

When you come to the Florida International Museum, you’re guaranteed to see something you’ve never seen before, and that few people in the world will ever see. See history in person in St. Petersburg…..the chance to see the exhibits here may not come again in your lifetime.
