I awoke to a beautiful, winter wonderland and a soft blue sky where cottony, white clouds drifted serenely across. Dundas St West Firehall Parking Lot-Belleville, Ontario
Winter doesn't bother me the way it used to...in fact, I love the contrasts of the seasons more with each passing year of my life on this breathtaking planet we call home.

My to-do list for today is comprised of a lot of errands here and there....taking 43 wine bottles to the Beer Store for recycling (no, I'm not a wino, I just had this very good intention once upon a time on a long ago Frosty Friday, of making a few batches of wine and just never got around to it), visiting my Mother to return her carpet steamer and hook up her bedroom television (since she is now home from the lake for the winter months).

Then it's to the office to pick up a waiver and fax an offer to a lawyer. Then it's off to the library to return the most amazing collection of books that I've taken out in a very long time!

If you're looking for some magnificent books that will help you in life and business, here they are:

Life's Missing Instruction Manual~The Guidebook You Should Have Been Given at Birth by Joe Vitale.
You MUST read this book! I can't emphasize enough how amazing and satisfying this book is. I've devoured it at least three times now over the past 3 years and I now realize I need to buy it. It deserves a permanent place on already overstacked bookshelves.

The 8 Best Practices of High-Performing Salespeople by Norm Trainor.
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to completely finish this book as I've been so busy with my move, however what I have read is right on and I know I'll be taking this book out again, this time from the Burlington Library once I move. So much to digest and implement here.

Ziglar on Selling by Zig Ziglar.
Well, what can say? It's Zig, the name says it all.

Entanglement~The Greatest Mystery in Physics by Amir D. Aczel.
My inner scientist will just not let me STOP reading these books on quantum physics and the state of the universe. I'm fascinated with this stuff and can't get enough of it.
If you wonder how we're able to communicate long distances with those people we're bonded with (without even picking up the phone or sending an email), then I recommend you read this book.
It's highly scientific, so unless you have the brain of a physicist or at least the interest in many things 'physics', you might find it a tad overwhelming, however, I guarantee that once you read even a fraction of this book, you'll never look at our lives here or the physical world around us the same again.
This is another book I HAVE to buy and add to my physics books collection. Gasp, life here is so incredibly interesting and never ceases to amaze me. The Genius of it all!!

Ok, for a quintessential marketing book, you have to pick up Marketing Your Services For People Who Hate to Sell by Rick Crandall, Ph.D.  I'm ordering this book from Chapters this afternoon so that I'll always have my own copy to refer to. It's so crammed with useful info for anyone running their own business, that you'll never lack for fresh ideas and things that will make your business take off like a prize race horse straight out of the starting gate.

Last, but by no means least, since it is written by none other than the two greats themselves, Jay Levinson and Seth Godin, is The Guerilla Marketing Handbook.
Doesn't the title just say it all? And since you all know Seth, you know this book is light years ahead of it's time.

Guess I better get a move on here....so many places to go, people to see and things that cry out to be done. Just wanted to leave you with this quote which struck me so strongly this morning that I know it will be one of those ones that I'll be quoting now and then out loud, most likely mid-conversation with someone:

"The meaning of things lies not in the things themselves, but in our attitude toward them."~Antoine de Saint Exupery

I have to thank you.  I have subscribed to your blog because as the book Entanglement probably lets us know...I have a connection deeper than the casual observer with you.  Otherwise, I wouldn't have found this post.  I have been in the last few weeks finding so many kindred spirits just when I need them most.  I always know when I'm on the right path because the right people show up.  Lately, I have been adrift. But, now I know where I'm heading...as Tom Petty put it, I'm heading for the light.  Thank you so much for perservering during your outage...you reached at least one person you needed to reach.  I'm grabbing Entanglement...I'm a physics nut, too.  How does it fit in with our profession, I don't know.  It's just amazing as it all is!

Jo, It's very early here to be as cold as it is....it's more like the end of December but have had just a short flurry.  The first snowflakes are always lovely...I too am glad you got through the outage to post; it looks like you've read some wonderful books.  Good luck on getting everything together for your move.

Jo, thanks for the book list. Our attitude toward something is EVERYTHING. Our perception IS our reality. I like winter wonderlands too. We may finally get to freezing here Friday.

It's a good omen.  You're the second person this week to mention Lifes Missing Instruction Manual.  (A man I know that isn't work related mentioned it.)

Thanks JoAnne :-)

hi Charlie,

I've never been to Georgia, however I've looked at your pictures of the area and it looks absolutely heavenly. I imagine when you have a snowfall it turns into a surreal, peaceful, astoundingly beautiful place to be.

Somehow Jo-Anne, my mindset is not quite prepared for winter yet, although it could happen any time now with temperatures lowering. brrr... we are having some nice days however.

Interesting titles - love quantum physics!

Jo-Anne, I enjoy quantum physics also. One of my favorites is "The Eagle's Quest" by Fred Alan Wolf. Then, I can't talk about favorite books without mentioning, "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse; I've probably read it 20 times. Love the snow pictures. We don't see much here in GA, but I'm always hopeful.

Gary,

I didn't realize that it ever got that cold in Texas...although I've heard you get snow sometimes. Perception is a very large part of how our lives go along...unfortunately perception is often altered in a negative way by old subconscious tapes. I heard an interesting talk yesterday on how to tame that inner robot and not allow it to play those tapes anymore....seemed to make perfect sense and if done, would make all the difference in a life.

Kris,

Thanks for stopping by! I think the universe is trying to tell you something......the book is very well written and filled with wisdom one can use on a day to day basis. Maybe you can put it on your Christmas list?

Hi John,

The Eagles Quest sounds like a book I'd enjoy....I'll have to see if my new library has it once I move next week.

I've never read Siddhartha, although I know it's a classic....I am aware of the story though and once dated a man who had changed his last name to Siddhartha because he was so impressed with the character in the book.

Hi Jo,

I see you are up to it again!! Books! I think I have some of these on my list already or they seem familiar. Keep them coming. I have all my daughters books here from university and have been reading some, they are psychology books. (She minored in psychology) They have been very interesting to say the least. What's this that winter doesn't bother you as it once did, I want to know your secret!! It kills me! I don't mind if it is around zero and light snow at Christmas.( Would prefer it to be about 70 or better for the winter, yes I know I am living in the wrong country) I don't know how I am going to make it when I get in my 50's not sure I will survive!! Haha only kidding 50 comes next summer so if you don't hear from me next winter you will know I have froze up!!

Jo-Anne~~I have started reading again----though I must admit, right now I am really enjoying the light stuff like 'The Secret Life of Bees'.  I appreciate your recommendations and intend to read at least a couple of them-----Is it a good or a bad sign that suddenly some of us have time to read?  Those of us who want to be ready for the market surge should be reading Ziglar or the Guerilla Marketing!!

Jo - Love the quote at the bottom of your post. Our attitude often controls our perception, which in turn can affect our reaction and direction.

Hi Trace,

Again, sorry to be replying to you so late. Things are finally normalizing since the move and I'm able to begin catching up bit by bit.

I'm with you...I would love to be in a warm climate year-round. Maybe some day....although winter has it's own special beauty.

Psychology books would be interesting to read....I imagine you're learning a lot about the human race. ((-:
I still have all of my old university science textbooks and sometimes I look something up in one of them. They're zoology texts and animals don't really change from year to year, so most of the stuff is still up to date.

If you're froze solid next winter, I'll send you abundant sunshine and a chinook or two to thaw you out....

hi Pat,

I'd like to see the movie 'The Secret Life of Bees'. I've been hearing so much about it. Perhaps I'll see if our local library has it.

I usually read before I go to sleep...it helps to take my mind off of the day's activities and then I sleep better.

Hi Joan,

Time is always a factor when wanting to read certain books....I have a pile on my bedside table right now that I want to finish, but as you said, time is difficult to find.

We've had a lot of high winds here the past few days....it seems to go from far below freezing to fairly warm in a matter of days. A very strange winter.

Thanks for stopping by and for your nice comment,

happy new year to you and yours,
