What if someone tells you that NOW is NOT the time to flourish? Not time to
grow the business? What if this someone whom you look up to for love and
support? This statement can be very devasting to your physche.
Unfortunately, the odds of success are against us and it is an
unfortunate but real. 66% of small businesses remain in business after the
2nd year and 44% of them remain in business 4 years after that. The statistics
of our real estate industry is even scarier. The failure rate of a first year
rookie agent is 86%, only 7% will renew their license and 76% of the agents make
less than $30,000 per year.
Building a small business is not easy. There are ample of unaccounted
hours in the day. It is no night and day. It is not a matter of shutting the
computer down at 5pm, pack up and leave the office. You may not bring the files
back with you but you certainly bring your clients' transactions and growth
strategies back with you in your head. Success may only be possible only after you have
been stable for many, many years there after.
Recently, I had someone very close to me utter those very words. It feels as if my heart was stabbed a million times.
Jason
Crouch posted a Song contest called,
(Un)Inspired by a Song Contest. In his
blog, he inspired to blog about a Song you can't stand to listen to even for a
few seconds. In my mind, this statement is played over and over again like a bad
song.
Gary Woltal
is one of my many friends who understands my personal
challenges playing Mommy and Realtor(R) roles at the same time. These two roles
are both full-time jobs and equally as important for me. My role as my little
Boomer's mommy is to lead him down the righteous path. "I
will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and
watch over you." Psalms 32:8. My
other role is real estate as my ministry. This is where I am connected with
people I am called to serve. Even until today, as my little precious Boomer is
almost 14 months old, I navigate these waters, often still holding my head up
high despite my difficulties.
I have learnt alot these past 14 months and my biggest
lesson is about
flexibility . It is not having to check off
every single task on the to-do list. If I don't get to some of them, that's okay
too. Understand that this is coming from someone who is highly-organized and
almost a perfectionist in character. It was indeed a humbling journey. Today, it is as if acknowleding flexibility is not enough.
Despite what I heard, I want to let you know that
Success knows no bounds. You are only limited by your imagination.
I am only limited by my own imagination though I must now walk a very fine line
between success at work and success at home. Do not let the news about the
economy stop you. Do not let other agents at the water cooler talk you down.
What other excuses would you let success come between you? If your loved ones
utter those hurting words, yes, you can feel hurt a little. Yes, you may even
cry a little. But as soon as you are ready, jump in the shower, take a very hot
bath and wash it all away.
Though it is a difficult journey and the state of the economy is real, don't
let it put a damper on your spirit. A successful entrepreneur must acknowledge
these challenges, even embracing them, but don't let that get in your way.
Will Rogers said, "Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over
if you just sit there".
Much to your success.
