Facebook, The Numbers Speak For Themselves

For those of you who have not yet joined the bandwagon of Social Networking, let me just tell you that you are falling behind the times.  If you don't think people are using sites such as Facebook to connect, reconnect, and facilitate conversation, you are sadly mistaken.

Facebook is the fourth most trafficked website in the world.  There are over 100 million active Facebook users, including myself.  There are over 55,000 regional, work related, collegiate, and high school networks to help you get re-acquainted or networked.  Facebook is the number one photo sharing application on the web, and has more than 30 million new photos uploaded daily.  Just recently my broker learned how to post a listing to the marketplace.

Granted, Facebook is mainly a socially oriented site, but there are reasons to be on it, and it can be utilized to market yourself and your business.  You can host conversations between yourself and everyone you know.  As stated above, you can share listings, photos, news about the local real estate market, events, etc.  All of these things can be updated to everyone you are connected with in real-time.

I know that I just recently signed on and have a lot to learn about Facebook, but I am not going to be left in the dust when it comes to social networking.  If you haven't checked out Facebook yet, I recommend starting up an account immediately.  Perhaps I will see you there!

Like they say on their website,  "Facebook helps you share and connect with the people in your life."  So, "Sign Up, It's free and anyone can join."

I had a closing on Tuesday from an old friend that I reconnected with through Facebook.  It's a great free application. It's actually a lot of fun.

I am going to have to do more on facebook -- it is so difficult to find the time to keep up with all of these social networks?  How does one find time?

Funny...  I thought Facebook was primarily "Greasy Kids Stuff", I may have to reconsider my position!  Good post!

As a mid-50s aged realtor, Facebook meant kids stuff to me.  That's primarily how my two college aged kids communicate with their friends.  How could it work for me?

But I did give it a whirl.  My daughter was aghast then laughed.  My son thinks I'm nutty.  My husband has no idea what I'm talking about.  But . . .I have been connecting just a little bit.  First with a young agent from my office who quit the business, then a business associate of my husband, then who knows who?

I feel just a little silly but - no harm, no foul.

Hey Troy - With Facebook I have been able to connect with many forgotten friends as far back (yes for me it's been decades ago) as high school. Some are out of control with the little nudges, and gifts thingies, but in all it's great fun....like the Rain!

Hi Troy -- I couldn't agree more!  There are so many untapped opportunities on Facebook -- not to mention it is just plain FUN to reconnect with people from middle school, previous jobs, etc.  I've recently posted two items on Active Rain that will help you go one or two steps further with Facebook:

How to add your blog to Facebook:

http://activerain.com/blogsview/797837/Promote-your-BLOG-on-Facebook

How to create a neighborhood or community page on Facebook:

Have fun -- and don't get too addicted!  :-)

Jen - It's great to hear that you have done business through Facebook.  Keep up the good work.

Vickie- I just sent you a message through Facebook.  I found you!

Kaleb- Glad to hear Facebook is generating business.

Joan - I agree sometimes social networking seems too time consuming, but just read these results people are having.

Justin - Good to hear you are using it for business, I'm sure as well as for social.

Paul - I was hesitant for a long time before I took the plunge.

Margaret - Yeah, I am in my 40's and know how you feel.  It's like going to a bar/nightclub and thinking "All the people in here are 21 or over?", and feeling like they are all staring at you.

Greg - I connected with a friend from high school I hadn't spoken with in 25 years.  It was fun to hear what he had done with his life.

Patricia - I keep getting invited to play Gangster Battle, but so far I have resisted.

Kerry - Thank you for adding value to my post.  I will definately read your posts as I am fairly new to Facebook.

I appreciate all of you who stopped by and made the effort to comment on my post.  Thank You!

Hi Troy - I've made a lot of real estate Friends on Facebook, now I need to look to the business applications and building a local network. It's a great way to reach the Gen X and Gen Y demographics.

Missy - I'm not sure what I am expecting, but it is another way for us to network.

Sephora - I haven't even attempted to start a myspace account.  I have seen some of those pages and can't even follow them.

Vicki - I think facebook is not just for the younger generation.

John - I feel like I am in the same place as you, looking to build a network and looking for business applications.  I also agree that it is a great way to reach the younger generation - future home buyers and sellers.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to stop by and leave a message!

Kathy - I agree that social networking can take up a lot of time.  That's why you need to focus on only a few that you feel will give you the most bang for your buck. I believe that facebook is one of those.

I joined Facebook with the intent of doing it for marketing purposes. Before I had a chance to blink, I had friend requests from old friends from throughout my life. I had a lot of fun reconnecting with friends old and new and decided that it was best to keep facebook more personal than professional. I have received friend requests from agents I don't really know well and have opted to pass. I am not shy in letting people know I work in real estate, but I have decided I am going to push other social network tools for professional purposes.

Pete - I too have mainly used facebook for reconnecting with old friends and social networking, but I don't see any harm in also including your business information.  You never know how someone may find you and want your real estate services.
