More than just rearranging furniture

By
Home Stager with The Staged Advantage

Next week I have the priviledge of working on the home of a single mother.  I say priviledge because it is just that - to be able to help a single mom, like myself, and to help her get top-dollar for her home.

That's partly why I got into this buisness (it certainly wasn't for the cash! LOL).  After moving twice in 4 years and viewing several homes that could definitely have benefitted from staging, and realizing that I have the 'eye' for it...

But it was more than just that.  After the death of my husband and the rigamaroll of getting my own home ready for the market, I knew that there were other single moms out there who could use help.  So giving this woman the benefit of a Stager's Eye and willingness to do whatever is needed to get her house in shape is a priviledge.  One that I am thankful for...

So if you are the praying type, please lift one up for this woman, that her home (beautifully restyled and staged by me) will sell quickly so she can reduce her monthly costs.

I'll get some before and after pics up and post on the progress!

Good job!

You can do it!  Even the slightest rearranging of furniture can do wonders for a place!
Good luck and go get em'!

I'm off to the Single Mom's house today (finally).  It has turned into strictly a painting job (ceilings and doors), which I don't mind doing as well, but I see SO MUCH in her home that NEEDS to be Staged to get this home to show better.  I've made some suggestions, tips from a Stager's point of view, explained the concept of the buyer's eye scanning the room, not settling on bad furniture placement - I've even offered her my basement to store some of her over-sized furniture!!

But like most people who just don"get it that can be the tough part.  But I will pray about how to communicate with her, and speak with her RE agent (who is also a friend).

Off to work!  Thank the Lord for this opportunity!  I'll let everyone know how it turns out!

She's coming around!!

I spoke with the homeowner this morning - the painting went well yesterday, although the water stain on the ceiling is being stubborn as I had anticipated it would.  2 coats of stain blocker and 1 of ceiling white and it is stil poking through.  I know there is a spray out there that can cover the trace that is showing through.

She's decided to take my advice and not only remove the wallpaper in the master bath but the kitchen as well!  Woo-hoo!

I've been formulating the staging of her home, even though she hasn't asked me to stage... I was thinking I might do a mini-stage while she's at work to see what she thinks... she's also coming around to the idea of getting rid of a lot of her extra "stuff" and is beginning to "get" what staging can do for her...

I'll be back at her house next week to finish the ceiling and strip the wallpaper.  She wanted to do a textured paint in the MB but I advised against it considering the washer/dryer is also in that room.

I met up with a neighbor who is selling his house and explained what I do... is that what you find you spend mosts of your time doing?  Explaining what you do??  It can be tiresome!

I'll get the pics up later...  its too nice  day to be here on the 'puter too long!

Hey Susan

A woman on a mission, God's mission, I love this. Hey why not do a surprise mini staging like While You were Out? Maybe she feels she cannot afford it and feels badly telling you that. Pray and you will know the right thing to do. Great to have you back

Hi Phyllis,

I kind of already did!  The realtor stopped by and we were discussing the LR furniture and decided to rearrange it "just to see what she thought."  We told the home owner what we did and told her we'd move it back if she didn't like it... she said she never thought of putting the couch "there" and it has stayed!

This project has turned into a much larger one than anticipated, as the HO slowly comes around to the idea of staging.  She liked the way the master bath turned out so much that now the paper is off the walls in the kitchen and the chair rail is gone and I'm painting that today!  She called me last night to ask what I thought she should do to put a few punches of color in the bathroom to make it look nicer...

Slowly but surely she's coming around.

Hi Susan, Sounds like the prayers are working. You might try Kilz on the water stain. It works best for me. Good luck and keep us informed.

What a super story!  What would all of us do without the help of friends when we don't see any daylight?  I too lost a spouse to MS and were it not for people like you who came along at the right time I would have been utterly and totally lost.  I have been so blessed in my life I could never give it all back.  You inspire me.  Keep us posted!  Can't wait to hear the outcome.  C
