Thanks + Giving = Thanksgiving - An Opportunity to Give A BOX OF HOPE to children less fortunate

I am so very thankful to God for the Blessings of Children and living in this Free land.

Every year since the girls were small, we have given back to children less fortunate in various philanthropic endeavors.

Last year, I blogged about one very special organization :Your Old Shoe Boxes can Bring a Smile to a Child this Holiday-Operation Christmas Child National Collection week November

Samaritan's Purse - is an International Relief organization that provides Spiritual

and Physical aid to people in need around the world based on the parable of the Good Samaritan.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

delivers millions of shoe boxes to underprivileged children in hundreds of countries all over the world!

They ask for things like Hygiene Items, School Supplies, Personal Notes-not your typical Santa's List!

These are children in need who most likely won't get anything for Christmas!

If you have an empty shoe box laying around- won't you consider wrapping and filling one with items suggested on their website - they have drop off points at many places- just enter your zipcode.

This years 2008 Collection dates are this week and next November 17th -24th

I'm sure many of you here on AR already do something similar for the needy in your communities or churches...but, if you did not know about this wonderful organization and the video moves your heart then that's one more child who will not feel forgotten :)

In the spirit of giving, there is a wonderful little girl in our town who wanted to give her old bicycle away. When she discovered how many kids don't have bicycles, she asked her dad to help her collect 100 bicycles to give to needy children. She's made the papers and a drop of for bicycles has been arranged.

Indeed, bless the children.

IT's so important to teach our children about the true meaning of Thanksgiving. God Bless you.

Hello Margaret - what a touching local story - we do not have to go far to have an example of the spirit of giving! The sunday school children at our church saw the video I posted here and were also touched by children who have not. May we never lose the spirit that your local little hero has! Hello Rich - I agree, Stewardship is taught - our time, talents and treasures all come from and belong to GOD. if you raise a child up in the way he should go with examples of giving back to others - that is a main reason we are here - to serve with the unique & specific gifts we have been given :) thanks for stopping by and sharing.

Hello Tom - there is a plaque my mom bought me years ago that has a saying that goes something like" In a hundred years, it will not matter what kind of car you drove, the type of house you lived in, or the money in your bank account,but the world may be better off because of the difference you made in the life of a child" That saying always struck me as to the importance of parenting - our legacy includes the ongoing service and work that our children do for others as well- children are our future :) thanks for taking your time to stop by and leave a comment.

Hello Dave -what a wonderful example your wife is setting for your daughter at such a young age! Many churches support this cause - it's amazing, how eager children are to help other children less fortunate. Thanks for sharing your example!

Grace, I have never heard of this but definitely have shoeboxes....and the drop off point is right in the next town! I would love to help make even a small difference, thank you for this--I had never heard of it.
