Ezard Elementary - 6th grade Trash Art {Conway Missouri}

Ezard Elementary School in Conway Missouri - The 6th grade class has been learning about "going green."

They've talked about the environment, recycling and using items in unusual ways.

Their latest assignment? Trash Art.

Use at least four items/things from around the home that otherwise would be thrown away.
Think "outside the box"
Try to avoid paint.

This morning, boxes, tin foil, tooth picks, soup cans and straws invaded the upper hall. The creativity of the class was impressive!

How can you re-use items that would other wise end up in the trash bin?

Ashley's Junk Art

My daughter, Ashley, used a variety of items in her "Old McDonald's Farm" including: toothpicks, a cracker box, straws, a paper bag, wrapping paper, a potato chip container, a cup and, to hold the fence up - her used bubble gum!

Chelsey Junk Art Karissa's junk

Chelsey used a Sunny D bottle to make her Christmas Tree!

Karissa used bottle lids, a toilet paper roll and a make up case in her master piece.

Josie's junk

Josie used pencils, soup cans and a cereal box.

Good post and great photos too, isn't it great to see them learning about green living, that is the only way their future can be better than it looks right now, if they all strive for a healthier life for all.

Neat photos Debbie... If you start teaching kids about green living now, they will adopt it as part of their life onward. Good post...

Steve - You are absolutely correct. The future for these kids is scary; they must realize change is necessary.

Michael - My daughter wasn't sure at first what she wanted to make. We started to "save" various items. She was amazed at how quickly the pile of "junk" grew! We had a great discussion on what is disposable, what isn't and how we could reuse items. This assignment, I hope, will keep these kids thinking!

Very clever idea for a class project, love this re-use. Reminds me of when I was a child, we did similar things out of necessity, such as paper mache projects, using left over crayons and melting them for cranyon wax drop paintings, etc... very educational thanks for sharing.

Mary - Boy, have you brought back the memories! I had forgotten about melting left over crayons! I loved doing that and haven't thought about that in years. I bet my kids have never seen that done. Sounds like a good project to bring out over the holiday break!

Sorry... had the name wrong. Ashley corrected me - I had "junk" and the proper name of the project: "Trash Art" I stand corrected!

Debbie, I love this--and the creativity. I've seen new graffiti in NYC where they are using disposed items to create art. I love the idea.

Debbie -- this is wonderful - I love the concept and it really does teach how we can "reuse" and "recycle" stuff into creative masterpieces! BRAVO!
