Ok, I’ve been called everything from a music snob to being closed minded in my musical tastes.
I personally don’t think that’s true, as I listen to a very wide variety of music. Everything from Rock to Jazz, to the Blues and beyond is on my I-Pod.
However, I’m open minded to give almost anything a listen, with the exception of……….Rap, Disco, Pop, Punk and…..
ANYTHING by Phil Collins!
While I respect him as a great drummer, his pop cheese songs are so freaking awful, I can’t hit the radio dial fast enough when he comes on.
His music makes my hair hurt!
His music makes my ears bleed!
He’s horrid!
Philth Collins is also a producer, and I use that term loosely, because as much as I love Eric Clapton, the two albums that he teamed up with Mr. Collins for, “Behind the Sun” and “August”, were absolutely unlistenable. It wasn’t until Clapton released his “Journeyman” album 3 years later that he was able to shake off the hideous influence that Phil Collins instilled upon him.
OK, enough ranting and raving…..
The one song that makes me wretch the most and I can’t turn off fast enough is Phil Collins’ putrid,
“You Can’t Hurry Love”.
Cheesy lyrics, hideous rhythms, and a video that will make you puke in Technicolor. This song has it all!
So without further ado, I bring to you, in all its wretched splendor and glory…
”You Can’t Hurry Love” by Philth Collins
Oh, and my dear readers, I apologize to you in advance, from the bottom of my heart, if you can’t get this song out of your head for a few hours. So, in an effort to make amends with you, just below the disgusting pop cheese of “You Can’t Hurry Love” is a video of the anti Phil. Enjoy that one because you certainly won’t enjoy the Phil Collins one!
For instant relief of that putrid, hair splitting, disgrace of a song by Philth Collins, listen to this instead. Hurry though or you may be humming "You Can't Hurry Love" for the balance of the day!

Didn't the Supremes do that song? Did he write the song? I liked it then, but this Phil Collins version is terrible.. And I do agree with you, anything by Phil Collins stinks!
Great "Worst Song Ever" pick! I like Phil Collins music for the most part but you are right about this song and it is one that stays on your head after you hear it! Bad song!! Bad!!
Sorry, I am not going to listen to Phil's song and you can't make me, wouldn't be prudent. Ha! And, yes, I do think you are kind of a music snob....hee...hee...and definitely "philaphobic".
CRAIG - Thanks for your entry for this month's song contest! It's okay - don't hold back. You can tell us how you really feel about Phil Collins. :-) By the way, please make sure you place this post in Dedicated Bloggers as well. I look forward to judging this one - it looks like we already have some great entries!
Leaving Genesis was defiantly a bad, BAD career move for POP Collins. Dance on a Volcano, Robbery Assault and Battery, Squonk....all good. Agreed, tough to take all these years on his own.
Linda - yes, the Supremes did that song. But it was actually written by the mowtown artists and song writers Holland-Dozier-Holland. They also wrote such greats as "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "(I'm a) Roadrunner"...I'm certain, except for the royalty checks, they'd be furious over Philth Collins' remake!
Terrie - Bad song! Bad song! Now go lie down in the corner! You're a bad song!
Cecily - You did yourself a favor by not listening to that video! It should be played for the inmates at Guantanamo. They'll tell us where Bin Laden is before the first chorus is over!!!
Jason - Thanks for creating this contest! It's definitely a winner..or a loser.....Well, it's fun nonetheless!
Scott - Genesis was a whole lot better before Peter Gabriel left the band. POP Collins! That's too funny!
Craig, my wife is a pre-school teacher. She comes home humming some of those songs from preschool... any one of those songs can get stuck in my head, and can't be removed without a laser treatment.
I could get you started, but I'll have mercy on you...
(humming.... the wheels on the bus go round and round....)
Alan - Thanks a lot! It's football day and I'm doing my best to act manly....but humming "The Wheels On The Bus" during third and long........Let's just say I'll get you back for this one!!!
Craig, My husband and I are with you 100%. Phil sucks and we love listening to some Merl. Thank you for adding the second video to counter balance the horrible phil video.
I've attached a link to a great Merl and Jerry Garcia tune.
I have to admit I do like "can't hurry love" just for its shmoltz factor but one song I can not stand is "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. It was good when first 1,000 time I heard it. Now its just nails down the chalk board.
Craig... I have to differ.. but that is what makes the world go round. I *can* take Phil Collins anyday.. over my *worst song ever*... you'll have to check it out.. I just need to post it still.. LOL. Even writing about it makes me sick.
Ashley - Don't worry Ashley, there's medication available to help you through this!!! A simple Phil-ectomy and you'll be cured. (That's what the 2nd video is for!) As far as Celine Dion.....I'm sorry, but getting that one stuck in your head, well, that's terminal! May you rest in peace!!!
It's not easy to hate on Phil, as he was so successfull with Genesis, but your right on point... Your selection was horrid and in honor of your choice, I will officially retire that song to my "Old Yeller" shed in the back.
I.m sorry to disagree with you, but Phil Collins? Are you kidding me,...did you ever see him in Genesis,... and what about all the later year single hits! I think I'd better get you a Q-tip! ;0)
Sean - You'll be a better man for taking your Phil Collins LP's to the "Old Yeller" shed! I mentioned LP's, not to show my age, but because he hasn't put out anything worth listening to since CD's came out...So I know you don't have any!!!
Craig - I share your pain...Collins went from semi-respectful with Genesis to generator or random schlock in the 80's: from the pop charts straight to your elevator! S-s-s-sussudio? R-r-r-r-retch! Nice dancing bears wallpaper, by the way.
Michelle - Oh Michelle, my poor misguided friend. I've seen Phil Collins both with Genesis (spectacular) and as a solo artist. While his solo concerts were indeed professionally performed, the content was less than invigorating. Oh, and those later year singles you refer to.....Sussudio? Just silly. In the Air Tonight? Wake me up when it's over.....boring! Groovy Kind of Love? Phil, you're kidding me. Right?
Now before you get me started, those that I just mentioned were on his greatest hits LP.
I'll give you Against All Odds (Take a Look At Me Now). Bona fide hit.
But those others.....BLEEECH!
Oh, and I do think that the Q-Tip is the world's greatest invention. So versatile! So easy to use! An Amreican Icon! I use them daily! ;)
Craig: I just had to come back to this post and read the comments. I knew they would be good. What the heck is BLEEECH? And, thanks for sharing your personal hygiene habits with us here on the rain....I really, really don't want to know what you are doing with those Q-Tips...hee...hee.
Cecily - There's been some good comments! Thanks for coming back! Let me address some of your concerns......BLEEECH is the sound one makes when hugging porcelin after drinking too much or when listening to Philth Collins! See the picture above for further reference!!! Also, you're welcome! Anytime I can share some hygiene tips with my fellow Rainer friends, I'm happy to oblige! Wanna know what I do with baby wipes?!!!!!!
Ugh this disguested me so much I am now puking up my whole lunch! Right after I watched this I felt my whole stomach go queasy. Oh dear God, how could you give Phil Collins the thought of becoming the cheesy singer he is today?! Once Again, EWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
~Kimberlei~
So sorry to have done this to you! I felt is was my duty and a public service that I warned the masses about the heinous crime against humanity Pop Collins has perpetrated against us with this song. Thankfully, if you've been bitten by this "snake" the anecdote was the video that followed! Apply liberally!
Craig-I don't think you like Phil Collins....LOL I posted one too, but not by him.... You will have to go over to Dedicated Bloggers and see it. It is an oldie.
Ah come on now, Craig. There were some decent cuts on Behind the Sun, and at least August brought "It's In the Way That You Use It." Other than about three or four tracks between those albums, though, I agree that they did collectively blow royally. As for Phil Collins, he owes me something. I'm not sure what, but there has to be some form of punitive damage for the carnage he left in his wake in the late '80s. Is there a statute of limitations on ear rape?
Paul - I'm with you my friend. There were some good cuts on "Behind the Sun" and "August"...But to get to them, you had to wade through the cesspool of the over produced and over influenced songs that Pop Collins massacred. I think Philth Collins owes all of us something for the damage he's caused us over the years! "Ear rape"....too funny!!!
