There
have been a few very misleading articles about Google lately. The
majority of these are speculating that Google is about to make major
changes.
Well
they already did.
But
they are not
what these
recent articles were talking about. Basically what everyone has been
speculating is simply not true. I will go into that later in a
different article so stay tuned. But for now I will announce the
actual changes that Google has made to their search engine.

As you can see from the picture
there is a major change. What this means
as far as searches go remains to be seen. The actual page ranking has
not changed at all. Instead the order is exactly as it has been since
the last changes. Instead it allows for the end user to remove search
results and or change the order for them.
You
are probably freaking out right now wondering what the heck this is.
So here you go:
In
an attempt to offer a more customized search experience—and
to stay
ahead of competitors—Google will soon be rolling out its
SearchWiki
feature to everyone using its services while logged into a Google
account.
Now
stop freaking out already because this doesn't really change
anything. No one is actually changing the results. Page Rank has not
gone away. Search results still matter. SEO is all important and the
actual SERPS have not changed. Nothing has changed other than giving
the end user the chance to change some of the results. Will they? Its
hard to say. I have a feeling that some might and then forget what
they did and not be happy with the results. In fact after much
speculation many were arguing that Google was making major changes
but this is it.
So
what do this mean for your website?
Well
of course the end user can change the results. But are they going to?
Would it matter?
Yes
and no. What difference would it make? If they don't go to your site
to begin with and they remove it from the results I guess they have
consciously decided not to want to go there again. Does it make it
permanent? No. These results are tracked through Igoogle! If you log
out of Google you can see for yourself that it doesn't work anymore.
You might even have wondered how I was doing that since you might not
have been logged in. So this is only a small percentage of people who
even use that program and an even smaller percentage that are logged
in to it. So the results are changing per computer and per user.
To
quote Google “The changes you make only affect your own searches.
But SearchWiki also is a great way to share your insights with other
searchers. You can see how the community has collectively edited the
search results by clicking on the "See all notes for this
SearchWiki" link.”
“As
to what the point
of the SearchWiki is, well, Google isn't saying just yet. Google is
known for its secretive, magical PageRank system that promotes
important search results while demoting others, and PageRank already
has some degree of human input on the Google end. We're not sure
whether Google plans to incorporate user feedback from SearchWiki
into its normal search results, or whether the company simply planned
to consider the extra data when determining the relevance of its own
rankings.”
So
stop freaking out about those articles you read yesterday. They
aren't even true.
There
are some other major announcements as far as SEO and other search
engines so please stay tuned. There is no reason to panic.

I have about 2-3 maybe more articles about this coming yet today. There have been some recent changes but its not going to affect the results... yet anyways. I doubt its that major of a change regardless.
Interesting. I wonder if they will eventually make use of everyone's changes and comments.
It is interesting to see how quickly people just accept some of these search engine rumors without question. Before you know it, everyone starts stating things like they are fact. I guess some people are good at sounding like they actually know what they are talking about.
Tim. I saw your comments in the other post. I think its very wrong that these articles are coming out that are so wrong. There is no evidence or proof to anything they have said. In fact it seems just the opposite is true. Bruce Clay when he made the original presentation seems confused about SearchWiki vs the Google search engine. That doesnt sound like a good source to me. Its speculation on top of speculation with the original source being completely wrong.
Really bad misinformation.
I think you are right as well. People take things as truth without looking into it. Read the comments on each place the articles are written. Dozens of people point out the errors. Some even question this guys legitimacy in the first place.
Shane, thanks for this work. Nice to know you are the one on-top of the Google changes. Thanks for making it easy and clear. I would not know to question these articles. Thank you.
Shane - I must admit, I feel a tad stupid over here because I have been referring to you as Eau for quite sometime. My bad. As far as google, it reminds me of the credit reporting agencies... one of those secrets that you have to be on the inside to know how it affects the outside. My guess is that they won't let any secrets out anytime soon and will continue to evolve as a module that has done pretty well. It's a module that most businesses would be hard pressed not to copy along their own way. Results tend to inspire copycat practices.
