Blogosphere

We can search the Web and see our words.  It's what excites us ... our words ... our thoughts ... our very personal contribution to that massive, ethereal world of expression.

Blogging is right-now, in-your-face communication.  Its immediacy is obvious, feedback and all.  We have little patience in our high-speed world, and blogging does not disappoint.

Simultaneously, we are marketing ourselves and our businesses.  However, if we step aside and turn off our egos, accepting delayed gratification, what enhances the value of our blogging and connects us to an unending matrix of thought?  Linking!

I did not see the power of linking when I first began blogging.  Eventually, I saw the hyperlink as a needed explanation to the text of a post ... like a footnote.Links

Then one day the realization hit.  The link associates you with that particular linked-to source, whatever it may be.  It connects you to colleagues, your business, your community and beyond.

When a neighbor mentioned that she hit my blog while searching for store hours, I was surprised.  Looking back at my post, I had not used a tag; it was simply a link to better describe the store to the reader.

I know I have seen posts about linking on Active Rain, but I do not believe we fully see value until we each come to our own realization.  There is just too much to read, synthesize and understand about the blogosphere.   My Active Rain bookmarked section resembles the piles of magazines I mean to read someday.  Anyway, even the simplest link can connect you and bring people to you.  They seem well worth the bit of extra time it takes to create them.

Marie, we did a recent blog about a loose mountain lion in the neighborhood. It received local comments, and an increase in "hits". Then, another site linked our blog to their local newsfeed, and the hits SKYROCKETED. Now, if we can figure out how to get a real estate related blog linked like that on a regular basis...!

Hi Laurie ... I've been thinking about it since I wrote the post.  My links are one sided.  They serve a certain purpose, but what's been on my mind is exactly what you are talking about.  I wish I had an answer but nothing is coming to me right now.  Maybe, eventually.  Thanks ... you made it a bit more concrete ...

Marie:  Blogging is such a great tool.  And you know that because you've heard how I give my time trying to teach others to take advantage.  Glad you are reaping the benefits.

Thanks, Laura ... There is just so much to learn and so little time.  TGIF!

Hi Chris Ann ... Yes, you do and it is really wonderful of you to spend your time doing so.  I have tried telling other Realtors about blogging ... seems to fall on deaf ears.  Perhaps, we all have to be ready; come to that point on our own.  Have a great weekend.

Link from your AR dashboard Blog to your Localism and Outside Blogs. Link to your friend's outside and localism blogs rather than their AR dashboard Blog. Internal linking doesn't produce the same authority as external linking does. E-mail people when you link back to them to let them know and do not be shy about asking them to keep an eye out to link back to you down the road.

Link to a few of your older posts if it carries the conversation forward, but when you do, use your external blogs rather than your internal AR dashboard.

Write more public posts than member's only posts. You can only link to public posts if you expect to be found. The public can't read members only posts and will become frustrated if you link to items they can not see.

Hey C ... Thanks ... guess my first step is to use my outside blog!!  Haven't gotten that far yet.  And you are right about the members only posts!  I just can't help myself ... running off at the mouth.  Anyway, I'm workin on it ... have a great weekend!

You are right, I don't think enough about linking to my posts.  I try to have my posts be content rich and need to learn a little bit more about linking to add that extra layer to help drive traffic that way.  Thanks for the post.

Hi Marie, Thanks for the good information and the reminder. We must do everything that we can so that people can find us on the internet.  Take care!

Hi Morgan ... We do get so concerned with our content that we forget about the other options that are available to us.

Marie- I too have so much to learn.  I don't know if any of us will ever learn it all before it changes again.  I hear google is making some major search engine changes and that web use rather than key words will help rankings.  It just keeps changing.

Thanks for the great advice. I will check back often. I really like the blog. I am new at blogging but I am beginning to learn quite a bit from reading blogs like the ones I find on Active Rain. If I can ever be of help just let me know.

                                                                 Thanks, Terry

Mhmm, Marie - the power of the keyword! The AR 'tags' mirror internet keyword searches. There is much about the system and scoring that imitates the way the net actually works.

'C' is so right about public / private.
