When I lived in Atlanta, I had a good friend of mine call me late one night with a huge issue. He lived right up the street, so I jumped in the car to see if I could help out with the issue. When I got there, it was way worst than what he had told me that it was. It was winter and apparently he did not keep his heat on in the basement. With that said, you have probably guessed by now that he had a pipe bust.

Well, we got the water department out there quickly enough and they got the water turned off. I had opened his basement door to start getting some of the water out. I knew that his carpet would be ruined. What I did not know was this was not the first time that this had happened.

In the meantime, his wife had be looking on line for people that deal in cleaning up after water damage. I went to tell her the bad news. It seems like they were in need of someone that was familiar with black mold removal. If this had been done right the first time, he probably would not be looking at this particular issue today.

If you own your home, do not take water damage lightly. Make sure that it addressed when it happens and get it repaired then and there.

I agree. I had major water damage on my own house. It cost me a fortune to repair it.

We had some serious water damage in the basement of one of our houses.  Like Jean it cost a fortune to correct the problem.  Be smart and take caution, it will save you many $$$'s.

Wather damage is a BIG deal as he and others of us have found out first hand.  It has to be taken care of very quickly.

Hey Danny, I live in Oregon, everything here is wet. Seriously, mold can be a dangerous problem and is best taken care of immediately before it becomes a medical problem. BTW, thanks for the reblog below. I appreciate it. I hadn't thought about turning off the comments on reblogs, good idea.

Danny, I'm just winterizing two short sale homes I have listed.  Water damage, no matter what part of the country you live in, is serious.  Expert opinions are important!  Thanks.

Hi Danny,

I have had my basement flood before and just not a fun experience.  You are right, better to take care of it first time around properly.  Also, good reason to have a home inspection, the home inspector can sometimes detect previous water damage, etc.

Jean, I hear you. I have heard that the repairs can run into the 5 digit range in some cases.

Valerie, I think that a lot of people neglect the pipes in the basements and the cost to repair one is way much more than to have them protected.

Richard, that it is.

Fred, I think that is something that people do not even consider when water damage happens.
