Hi Regina,

Thanks for the invite.  I some times forget when to start and end my work day.  A friend of mine that had a home office her whole career said she use to dress for work and go to her office at 8 AM and end at 5 PM.  She said it mentally put her into the work mode.  So far that has helped to keep me focused and helps me to stop working to.  If I don't do this I start to feel like all I do is work.

Hi Carlyn, I agree with getting up, showering, and getting dressed in work clothes.  It really helps you be more productive in the home office environment because of the regular routine (and also you feel more on track) -- so you project confidence.

Hi Regina,

Thanks for the invite. I look forward to corresponding with other Brokers that are working from their Home Offices.  The interaction with other agents is the only part that I miss from a conventional office setting.  I think that this group will help.  Even if it's just for bouncing ideas off of one another.

Hi Marty Remo,

I agree that it can get lonely working from home all day.  I ride my bicycle downtown when I get up in the AM, and sometimes take a walk to the store in the afternoon.  Plus, I am on the phone a lot, so that helps.

The good news is that we don't waste time with social gossipping at the water cooler, as often happens at most offices.  I worked for the State once, and I think about 1/3 of the employees' time was wasted on needless office politics!

I think the idea of starting out with a bike ride or something social in the morning to get started might help from feeling isolated.  I think I will try going to the neighborhood Starbucks and hang out.  I can ride my bike and take my lap top and business cards.

Carlyn, I find that a quick (30 minute) bike ride gets my energy level up (I don't drink coffee), and stimulates my brain.  Often I think of things during my bike ride, and when I get back to the home office I'm already in "full throttle" mode and ready to go.

I have found that some Starbucks are very noisy; however, a business person can never network enough!  I try to schedule my meetings and out-of-office appointments in the afternoon because that's when my energy level is lowest.

It's funny when I started in Real Estate I would go to the office everyday and listed to other agents deal with their clients. After a while, I would find myself having the same conversation with my own client and almost repeating what the other more experienced agent was saying.  My point is:

I think that working is a conventional office as a new agent can be a good thing.  However a you advance, and your interest shift more towards production vs. training.  I makes more sense from a time management sense to work from my home office.

I think your right, when I started out in real estate my most help was working with another agent.  I think everyone needs that mentoring when starting out.  If I was talking to a new agent about Allison James where it is all virtual I would suggest they try to join a team for the first year.  There is so much to learn that you don't get when getting your license.

The great part about a home office is that you don't even feel like you are working all the time.  You can accomplish so much more in a shorter time frame which gives you more time to do other things!  It is a win win situation!

Carlyn, I like the idea of having a coach or a mentor.  It's all about the folks you surround yourself with, isn't it!  ;)
