Atlanta Country Club Golf Homes Estate Sale Private Gated Public Course Subdivision

I will not bore you with the list of occupations I have worked in. Almost all were sales related and your income was based upon your production not the amount of hours equals pay. To even consider a job (and thats what it would be to me) where someone would dictate to me what my time by the hour is worth is unimaginable. I am not knocking the many hard working folks that deliver many of the products and services that I rely on, I just COULD NOT DO IT! The thought of a measuring stick for worth just does not seem right to me. For those of you who have no choice right now, I am deeply sorry, this situation left you without a choice. Maybe some folks will be happier, but, for the most part probably not. A reality check that many agents did not need, those of us still here will probably claw our way to the next stage of the market. Hope some of the folks that had to find a "job" can come back to us. Like the old saying "you don't know what you got till it's gone". I still believe we are in one of the best and satisfying occupations possible. Good Luck to all of us and Happy Holidays!

I rather be in real estate than a wall street stock broker right now.

Still drawing breath and still clawing....I agree.  To paraphrase Richard Weisser this morning, I'm not fit to do anything else.  Meaning my passion is here.  I've had many careers...law, insurance, brokerage (securities), medical and construction, but this has been my only passion.  So I'm stuck.  But, some folks who left might do better to stay out.  These markets and the way we do business is changing so fast, it's hard to keep up when you're plugging away, day after day, full-time.  I know, it's not politically correct to knock the part-timer, but I hate doing all of their work on top of my own and handing them a check for it!  Sorry.

I got into the business in order to transition from my current career of 25 yrs as corporate downsizing is a part of life these days where I work full time. I've always fascinated by the Real Estate profession.

Good thing I still have my regular job though, as sales started to dwindle in my area just about the time I received my license. So far, considering all the expenses involved, I'm still in the red.

I do plan to try to press on, but it will be difficult. If I do lose my full time job......well, it might be time to rethink my whole situation.

Not to worry though....Obama is going to fix everything with "change"!

Frank and Jodi- I agree, if this is your passion, always follow your passion and the money will follow. The last time I worked for someone else was when I was 16 years old and that lasted all but 2 weeks, I did not even wait for my paycheck, I said, I am outa here! And an entrepreneur was born, never looked back!

I have had many businesses and my passion is paying it forward, helping others to grow and see all that they are and to make a difference in the lives of others, real estate has become after over 23 years in this business the vehicle to achieve my dream through coaching. I have always had other businesses along with my real estate business because it is in the entrepreneurship area that is my passion, not the business itself.

Real estate is a business in which you can make whatever you set your mind to make. All agents need to figure out what they are worth now and what they want to be worth per hour. If they are only worth $10 per hour in real estate and they do not see themselves rising above that, then real estate is not for them, they can go get a job that pays that and has no stress. We have worked ourselves over the years to become worth in the upwards of $250 per hour and more. SO then as business owners, we measure all our income activities with that measuring stick. Each agent can do the same. Katerina

Mark- I 'hope' that was a comment, tongue in cheek:) Obama just proved there is no change, not one single person he has hired for his team is new, young, change,- every single one is a old cronie from the Washington establishment who have been there for years giving us the same ol[', same ol'- yep, the only change we see on the horizon is, " get your money out and move it somewhere else, close shop, and run for cover til its' over". Katerina - Your response is a blog in itself! Yes, look back to that first job, I think I lasted about a month. Once the entrepreneur bug has bit you there is no turning back. Stress is definately a factor, some of strive from it and some of us run from it. I think you and I eat it like candy!

John - I think the full timers will stay active, newbies and part timers have probably written off this occupation.

For those thinking of leaving the Real Industry, we have a lot of Realtors/LO's joining up with us.  We are a Group of Professionals from across America who have joined forces with one mission in mind... To help Save Homes Across America!  No up-front fees to join or anything like that.  Help save homes, and make a decent commission, a win-win situation for homeowners and professionals alike.  For more details, check out my AR page!  I recently made a switch to a different company because of ethical reasons, and love the switch, as we can help a lot more homeowners than before.  Helping homeowners does not require a lot of time, allowing Realtors and LO's to keep doing what they love to do.

Frank & Jodi, I was at the "Corporate World" for 32 years and can not imagine myself going back.  I like being a real estate agent, meeting people and helping them find the right home.  If and when we move out of New York, I still might go to real estate business where I will be moving.  If not, I'll completely retire which is highly doubtful.  What do I do with all my energy?

Rosalinda - It is almost like escaping when you talk of leaving the corporate world. If you move to Atlanta, call us, we'll hold your license...

I'm just getting in to the real estate world and I still have my other business that I work when I need to make some cash.  I think it's a good time to start in the business and be part of the fluctuations for better or worse.

As for the Obama bashing- I think we should all focus more on our business and let the next president try and fix our current mess.  Give the guy a chance, I personally feel good about the fact that he is surrounding himself with people who have been there before and know the ropes.  It's much better than hiring his croanies to fill the positions.

As real estate professional we really do not know for sure how much we are making until the end of the year.  So there is a comfort in knowing exactly how much money will be coming especially if you have to support a family so I cannot blame anyone looking for that steady income.  The important thing is to stay focussed on whatever your goals are.

Kim - We try very hard to keep politics out of our blogs. If you can make it in Real Estate now, you can make it anytime, but, don't quit your day job!

Silvia - Agreed, we use Quick books for accounting, at any time you can compare this year vs. previous years incomes, it is ugly sometimes....

I too came from a 9-5 salary job......as I am sure many in the Real Estate profession have.

The choice to rely on our own ability to make the money we desire and feel we deserve is the reason we do what we do....speaking strictly financial.

Hi Frank!  Yes, that is the way that those of us who are left in this profession feel--we wouldn't have it any other way!  I love being my own 'boss' and love being able to work where ever I am.  It IS stressful at times but, always worth it in the end.

I came from a nursing background--worked as a Registered Nurse for 20+ years and retired in 1999 to pursue my other passion, real estate!  So, hard work was ingrained in me anyway and I think that has helped me be a better REALTOR because I KNOW how to listen and 'take care' of my clients!

Today, I give thanks for all that you and Jodi have done for me!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
