Today is very cold here at the beach! (22 degrees)  Winter is not officially here, but the frigid temperatures say otherwise.  I am so grateful to live in a warm home, with a huge pot of homemade soup on the burner!  Have spoken with my sister this morning from the other side of the state.  All is good in her house as well. Aren't we blessed?!  Just learned that my husband will traveling home for Christmas, hooray!  What a nice Christmas present for me!  His business requires that he spend most of his time out of the country.

My business is still pretty dismal, but I have time to stay in touch with friends, reach out to new folks, and think.  I am thinking about where I can best use my gifts/skills.  At the office and other places, folks are still singing the blues.  I simply can't and won't listen to it anymore.  Practicing gratitude is more pleasing, healthier, and productive.  I don't even turn on the news or read the paper.

I would love to hear what the rest of you are doing to remain upbeat, keep afloat,  and stay positive.

When I think too much of myself, turn my thoughts toward someone else.   ....Anon, twentieth century, Japan(translation by Mary-Theresa McCarthy

Pursuing your hobby's and following your passions are what I consider to be most important when it seems the world around you is going to hell in a hand-basket.

I dont read, listen to or watch most news media because it's always bad!

I do enjoy Bill O'reilly on occasion though, as even when what he discusses is "bad" he does it with a positive outlook and optimism that is very refreshing!

I have health, food on the table, heat in my home.  I have much to be thankful for and will make press those thoughts into action so they might help others.  That's how I maintain a PMA (positive mental attitude)!

I am "agressively optimistic" and make sure I avoid negativity in any form.  I am currently on Day 17  of 29 days of gifts  and it is bringing me great fun and a smile everyday!    Today, we're putting up our twinkly lites outside and there is a dusting of snow on the ground.  We too have a big pot of homemade soup on the stove using Goose broth I made from our Canadian Thanksgiving goose.  YUMM

How wonderful that your husband will be coming home - now THAT is a gift!

Hi Brenda, I stopped reading the papers and watching the news some months ago and feel much happier since!  Maybe it just proves that "ignorance is bliss" but it has freed up my mind tremendously so I can concentrate on other things.  Happy Thanksgiving!

I love the NC beaches!! It's pretty cold here too. Charlotte area was down to 16 degrees last night. ugh. I understand your heart ache. I don't even watch the news these days. It's slow here for the winter, and my boyfriend's dad is going back to saudi to work as an Engineer for an undetermined amount of time....

we can pull through the winter with some good ole soup!!!

I am spreading the good news.

Each day I find the opportunity in what I read or hear or see.

Home Prices are fabulously affordable.  Interest rates are gloriously low.

Believe it or not, there are folks out there to whom that news would be very well received.  I try to identify those people and make sure I'm in their sights.  Whether that is via my blogging or just by spreading the word in my sphere of influence.

I try to look at what I have and be thankful -- It is a challenging time, but it can teach us so much -- I don't really need so many things--- it makes me focus on what truly is important!  I am reading, staying close to family, being supportive of friends, volunteering, going to the gym -- and most important keeping a sense of humor!

Margaret,

Thanks for the comment on the 'beach' header. Will probably change it this week for another photo...just getting started on the blogging thing. I describe myself as a dinosaur!  So...look for another header real soon. Thanks again and have a fabulous week.
