Corporate IdentityOk, you’ve taken care of branding, so you’d think you’ve completed your Corporate Identity.  Not quite.

What’s left to do? Well, let’s see…your corporate identity is comprised of the following elements:

Corporate Design: refers to the creative, visual representation of your brand.

Corporate Behavior: delineates what you/your organization believes in.

Corporate Communication:  Refers to how you present your company/product/service to the media.

So let’s talk about your corporate behavior!  This concept is usually also referred to as organizational culture or corporate philosophy and I like to call it Your Corporate Personality.  Your corporate personality components play a distinctive role in how your brand is perceived by customers.  This is my favorite part of branding because it is where you really put into words why you do what you do and how you do it and allows you to really connect with your audience at an emotional level in order to persuade them on why they should choose you from the rest.  It gives you a chance to answer their question:  why should I do business with you?

So before you think about distributing that “oh-so-popular” tri-fold brochure to show off your creative and effective brand, there are some concepts that need to be defined:

Your Mission Statementor what some call the “elevator pitch” (implying that you should be able to narrate it while going from one floor to the next in an elevator).  This should be a short and concise, but very specific statement that specifies your business purpose, goals and priorities, clearly describing who you want to sell to, what you want to sell and why you do it (as in why should they care and what’s in it for them!

By combining her passion for sports, her sharp negotiating skills in real estate and her positive attitude,  Mindy Sylvester makes it possible for professional athletes and their families to enjoy a  confidential and informed relocation to the finest communities in Naples FL”

Your Vision This should be a short, succinct and inspiring statement summarizing your aspired achievements in the marketplace, sort of a corporate affirmation.  Forget about the boring become the first choice (or even worse… leader!) in the [industry] market.  Make it sound like your ultimate goal is to EXCEL at satisfying your client needs and wants (and mean it!).

Your Values How do you run your business?  What moves you/your team? What causes do you support?  How do you describe your lifestyle?  You’ll be surprised how itemizing these principles will instill the necessary trust to attract wonderful prospects. Deliver on the promise and turn them into a client for life!

Don’t forget that all elements of your corporate identity should be consistent with the core marketing message you want to communicate.

With your marketing consultant’s assistance, you can compose compelling text that emotionally engages your target while communicating a consistent core marketing message that infuses credibility and loyalty to your brand.

I think what makes me different is that for 90% of my clients right now. They have been referral from my other business. People that I have known for years, seen me around town for years and know that I will do what I say. I try to keep it real not pretend to be anything i am not. I do not really have a corporate image per  say but our company does. Its simply. We have been here the longest, Have a proven track record, we are rugged, we take care of the clients and the agents. very important on both areas. Many agents get left in the cold. Oregon Realty Co does not do that. Commission scale is the best I have ever seen. Education is great. Owned by one person that started as an agent 30 some years back part time while in going to college and in the reserves.

Best to you and yours

Cheers

Elayna,

Thanks for a great post and your willingness to share valuable insights.  I recently left a great office and reputable company to start my own Real Estate company simply because I had a desire to be a part of a comtemporary company, unafraid of change, in touch with today's consumer, and the flexibility to let me be myself without having to fit into a cookie cutter mold.

Elayna,

Great post. I strongly agree that personality is this secret ingredient that many professionals forget, no matter what industry they work in. I actually just wrote a book all about corporate personality that you'd probably be interested in given your obvious passion about it. The book is called Personality Not Included, and is all about why businesses and individuals need to find and use their personality. I'd love to know what you think of it if you do come across a copy, or check out one of the excerpts available online.

Corporate image is important in a number of ways.  We build our branding to generate business and our branding is tied directly to the image our company has built over the years.  I'm fortunate to be part of a company that has a great reputation for serving buyers and sellers in my area.  We are not a national company but we have a very strong local brand.

Chris: Organizing a formal business involves so much. Take it one step at a time and refer back to previous items before you create the other. Keep them consistent and evoke the same feelings. You won’t believe it when it is completed. It will look, sound, feel and be worth a million bucks.

The elevator pitch - mission statement - is such a simple concept.  Why is it I struggle to find a concise way to express what I do and the value I bring to the client?  I know I should be able to tell you in 30 seconds, yet I struggle with that.  I'll give this some thought.
