I became an editor of Topix.com for Oak Lawn Illinois because of another Active Rainer, Bill Gassett.  It's been fun and I've started to interact with some of the readers in the Topix forum.

It only takes a few minutes a day to find articles to post as I have a Google alert set up for Oak Lawn.  Sometimes I use my own blog articles.  And it was one article that captured a lot of interest.

I wrote about an Oak Lawn car dealership and how they were offering a Buy One Car, Get Another for $1.00.  I even put a real estate twist to the story.  It generated a lot of comments on the Topix page.  And when I went to check the blog page I got a warning that my bandwidth was exceeded!

I got scared because it also said something about being suspended.  So I quickly logged-in to my Bluehost account and couldn't see any problems.  So I left it alone and figured I'd just check the next day.  Everything was fine.

The Power of a Blog Post

Another curious thing happened.  I received a couple of phone calls asking me if I still had any cars left for the "buy one, get one for a dollar" deal.  I thought the first call was a joke.  I explained that I just wrote an article on the subject and I was not the car dealership.  I got another call this afternoon.

This story was heavily covered throughout the Internet on many news portals.  Do people call all these other sources or was it just because my phone number was visible and easy to find?  I mean, come on, where did anyone get that I was the car dealer from that post?

If they were only looking for a house!

Judy great job on getting that post viral.  Hopefully, one of the car dealer callers decide they also want to buy a house.

Frank,  are you using the Editor link at all?  It is to the top left of your town page (as long as you're logged in).  When you say you joined I'm assuming you mean you requested to be an editor and it was granted.

If so, you just go to the Editor link and it will give you choices as to what & how you want to publish.  If you're trying to add a post you've written, you choose "the Web."  Then it will ask for your blog's url (make sure it is the individual post - not your entire blog page).

Once it crawls the url it will give you a title and a snippet of the blog.  You can change these if you want.  Every time a new article is added by you or the roboblogger, your entry will move down and will eventually fall off that page.  However, you will have received a link from Topix to your post.

Hope this helps.
