WHINER or WINNER?

By
Real Estate Agent with The Elizabeth Nieves Realty Group 209227

If I were to ask you to identify the ‘whiner(s)’ in your office, you would probably not hesitate. I’m fairly certain that someone would immediately ‘pop’ into your mind. I’ll go one step further and suggest that…IF I were to interview everyone in your office…I’d hear the same name(s) repeated over and over.

‘Whiners’ are easy to recognize…mostly because they just will not stop complaining. They ALWAYS have something to say…and it is ALWAYS negative. Another distinguishing ‘whiner’ trait is the ability to ALWAYS find someone to blame for the ‘problems’ in their life. ‘Whiners’ are also excellent detectives…naturally gifted to find even the most elusive reason (excuse) to be miserable when everyone else is perfectly content.

Just like a pesky fly that appears out of nowhere the moment you try to enjoy a delicious sandwich…’whiners’ arrive on the scene when you are trying to have a good time. They ‘buzz’ around your head until they are fully satisfied that you are every bit as miserable as they. Then, they ‘fly’ away to find another unsuspecting, happy victim.

Do you see a STORM or GOD’S MAGNIFICENT PAINTING?

Now that you have at least one ‘whiner’ in mind, I would like to ask you to think of a person who is exactly the opposite…a WINNER!

I want you to think of someone who:

ALWAYS has something positive and encouraging to say…

ALWAYS finds a reason to be thankful, even in the midst of troubles…

ALWAYS accepts responsibility for the consequences of their own choices/actions…

ALWAYS celebrates other people’s victories…

ALWAYS finds a way to overcome the obstacles of life…

ALWAYS lights up the room with their smile…

Did SOMEONE come to your mind?

NOW…which ONE are YOU?

Elizabeth - We have our share of whiners in our office and I try to stay clear of them as much as I can.  You are a WINNER in every sense of the word!  You give so much and ask for so little in return.  I am so blessed to call you MY FRIEND!  GBU!

To the point.  I hope some of the "whiners" read this blog and have the ability to change.  Great piece.

Sweet post, Elizabeth!  I think all of us have our moments when we do both!  I just try to be very private about my whine times - like whining to my cats - and they're discrete!

Elizabeth- I think some offices just naturally breed Whiners and some grow Winners. It all depends on the attitude of the BIC and other staff. I've been in both types of offices. In the "winner" office it was very easy to pickout the few whiners.

Now that I mostly work out of my home office- I guess I have to be careful as to what to be. Since I can't even stand to hear myself whine, I might as well be a winner!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I used to go to the office everyday and finally about 3 yrs ago just decided to work from home instead.  Even though the office was quiet, too quiet.  You could hear a pin drop.  No laughing or even stimulating conversation.  When ever a certain person did come in the office I usually found a reason to leave so I didnt have to hear them. And I immediately know of several people that are winners, and only 1 is a top producer.

Well, Elizabeth, I just gotta tell ya, there are LOTs of these flies these days. I don't stand around to listen and will not respond--it is so counterproductive and whiners need someone to whine to. Ever listened in on two whiners together? (UGH!)

Have a wonderful thanksgiving and may God answer your prayers--the desires of your heart-- and quickly.

BeBlessed

I had to leave our office and take a desk at home because of all the whiners that would come to my desk and complain about this or that. I am a fairly positive person and I felt they were draining the life outta me! Some offices let people go because they spread bad feelings like disease.

Great post with great contrasts.  What is that syndrome?  Why is it that 'whiners', while mostly in the minority (thank heavens), are the ones that are listened to most?  One whiner/complainer out of 50 agents in your office and that ONE person is paid attention too.  What about the other 49 'winners' that try and forge ahead in spite of these tough times?

I had to snicker as I was reading your post as I know her (the whiner) and you are right, evryone can identify who she is in the office. I call these folks the "Spitting Camels" in my life and try to not have the life sucked out of me by the negativity. Great Post!

Elizabeth~~Don't know about everyone else, but with this 'different' market we have right now, it has been truly amazing to see just how many WINNERS there are out here.  So many people refuse to let anyone utter even the slightest negative comment.  It is truly inspiring---just like your post!!! Sometimes the hard times bring out the best in us!!

When you are the only one in the office you get the unique opportunity to be both the winner and the whiner. I find that staying busy, planning for the future and always asking yourself what more you can do for each of your clients keeps the inner whiner at bay.

Elizabeth, a nice point!  There are a few agents in my office that when I see their car in the lot I want to just drive right through the parking lot and back home again.  Because I know when I go in to work they will hover at my desk with their negative quips and dreary outlook on life.  I wonder why they can't connect their negativity with their lack of business???

This was a great piece to read! I think we all know that the agents who are making money and closing deals are not whining and the ones who are starving, are whining the loudest!

Thanks,
