I was on Twitter when Thesa Chambers  was talking about all the Eagles in her area.  Then Ann Cummings asked a few questions, and poof there were 4 or 5 people talking about Eagles and Owls.  Ann apparently hadn't seen a real Eagle, and asked if seeing a Seagull was close enough :)  Well, as a Sunday morning would go, I decided that maybe with some glue we could add wing span, talons, and a beak to that poor seagull to make it into an Eagle.  But Ann didn't seem to think there was enough glue.....there is the premise for today's Post.  How do you turn something ordinary into something spectacular.

Attitude can change something Ordinary into Extraordinary

So many times we aren't satisfied with who we are or what we have.  We want more, or better.  I guess it's not all our fault, we are taught to want more, but when is it enough?  Accepting what we have and who we are are the first steps to understanding.  And understanding brings acceptance.

We can't be someone we're not, just as this Seagull can never be an Eagle. There is a place in this world for everything and everybody.  Our experiences in life have made us who we are today, and that won't change just because we want it to. But we can change certain behaviors like our Attitude....this is about the only thing that can really change something ordinary into something extraordinary.

Thank you Ann for the Inspiration. As you said there isn't enough glue to transform a Seagull into an Eagle. But then again why would we want to?  Both of these species are beautiful in their own way, and in their own environments, just as we are all special in our own ways.

As we are about to celebrate Thanksgiving, and start the Holiday Season let's all remember to show tolerance for those that are different from us, and to accept ourselves and our limitations Let us all accept those in our families  that might not be exactly as we want them to be :)  Family or Friends......it all starts with us.

Now here aree my Monday Gifts:

Gift #1- If you don't know Ann Cummings  let me introduce her.  She is one of the nicest people here on Active Rain, with a great sense of humor.  Ann is a licensed Broker in both Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Maine with over 25 years experience.  Her Blog Posts give you a great idea of her area with some wonderful photos also.  But above that Ann is a valuable member of our Active Rain Family :)

Gift #2- Thesa Chambers  is a Real Estate Broker in Oregon, and is the Photographer for this beautiful Eagle picture.  She graciously put this photo into our Flickr Group, and I am ecstatic as it is a beautiful photo.  How many times have any of us been this close to something this spectacular?  And not only close, but just look at that Eagle taking off.....the power and beauty of this majestic specimen warms my soul.  Thank you Thesa for sharing this with all of us.

Kathy - I was following you guys on Twitter and got tickled at your conversations! I wish you had done the artwork on that poor seagull! LOL

Ann is a warm, wonderful person that has such a big heart!

Thesa is also one of my favorites, and does she ever live in a gorgeous place!

I think we should look for the extraordinary in our lives!

Hi Kathy - I saw a google alert this morning, and wondered how you'd taken eagles and seagulls and glue and make them into a post.  And wow, did you ever make an awesome post with those ingredients.  As I am reading your post, I have "Amazing Grace" sung by Il Divo on a YouTube video playing in the background.  That song combined with the message of your post brought tears to my eyes.

"Accepting what we have and who we are are the first steps to understanding.  And understanding brings acceptance."
I am learning, ever so slowly, to accept the life I now have without Bear, and I am hopeful that will lead to understanding how to keep moving forward.  Your words are so prophetic for me right now.

Thank you for those very kind words, and for listing me as one of your Monday morning gifts.  I am so touched by that, and I'm glad to have been inspiration for you for this post.  Those pictures are absolutely gorgeous.  And to think, this all started by clowning around on Twitter....  ;-)

Neal and Linda - thank you for those very nice words you wrote in your comments.

And one last thing, here's my gift to any who care to check this out:

"Amazing Grace", sung by Il Divo, as mentioned in my comment above.

This is one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard.  I hope you'll enjoy it as my gift to you all this morning!

It's no wonder Thesa was able to take a great shot like that. She lives in a beautiful area. I was surprised Ann hasn't seen one, looks like she will need to come camping with Monika and me to Bar Harbor, Maine as we have seen a few up there. So majestic as they fly from one tree top to another.

Linda-Morning..that Twitter stream was fun, and if I had more time I really would have glued up that poor seagull just to prove my point.  A seagull with Eagle Feathers would still be a Seagull :)  We just have to go to the San Diego NAR next year my friend, as I think we are missing out not meeting them in person.

Neal-Ahh coming from you is like the Active Rain Official Seal of Endorsement as you do know who is genuine and who isn't :)  Thank you.....

Kat-You are so close to me, also in a beautiful area, and I know the Eagles are there...but do you think I could drive that far...no :)  But I will be on a plane tomorrow for an area of WA that has a lot of Eagles and I hope to see them again this time.  I saw them feeding on a lonely beach, I saw them flying, and just sat watching them.  Beautiful........but Thesa's picture is one I would blow up and hang on my wall for sure.....I love it.

Tami-Agreed, and the best part is she actually joined and put this picture in the Group after the Twitter session.....so the Group did exactly what I wanted it to do.....give someone a picture they needed without worrying about getting in trouble for using it :)

The meaning of my success is coming from within....and acceptance IS key to understanding life for me. It is also for understanding others...or not.   I have come to the point in my life where I am comfortable with what I have and where I'm going. I stop to sniff the flowers and close my eyes while smelling the aroma in the air with my brewing coffee.

I love to wake up in the morning....another day of living in my own little world. :)

Ann-First let  me thank you for the Monday Gift of that beautiful song.....I could see the eagle flying through those columns, and when the song hit that particular powerful part, well so did my Eagle rise to the Heavens.

I can see where that song, your memories, and the message in this Post could easily bring tears. Your life was turned upside down, and it isn't easy to try to accept something like that, but you are.  Everyday that you do the ordinary things in your life, like raking leaves, going to the convention to see your virtual friends along with your real life ones.  Posting, Selling, Watching Nature turn into the next beautiful act are all the ordinary things that make up a part of who you are.  Your strength, and the collective strength of your friends standing beside you will continue to help you along the path of acceptance.  It will come in it's own time......one step at a time.

Jay-Alrighty then...next time you and Monika post a picture of you eating fresh catch Lobster I want to see Ann in the picture as well.  Yep....they are beautiful, in both statue and spirit.  As just one of this large Community I want to thank you and Moni for all the support you gave/give Ann....I know it has helped, and we are all lucky to have you in this "Family".

Happy Monday Carole...it is indeed a Happy Monday :)

Ann-Yes....and if the homes there were more in my price range I would be outa here :)  I love Nature so much better than a city of concrete and leashed animals :)

Thesa-Desert?  I am going to have to Google your area....beautiful rivers, forests, and now desert :)  Thank you again.....and best of luck with todays transaction.

Sally- Day in and day out you remind all of us this message.  Accept who we are.....that is really all we can do anyway if we want to appreciate and enjoy life.

You cant compare a Seagul to a soaring bird!  Not many eagles by me.. I have only seen a bald eagle close to home once. But Red Tail Hawks, and Osprey.... Always a delight to see.  Even the turkey vultures are more fun to watch fly than a sea gull, we have too many of them around!

Great post Kathy - I really enjoyed reading for once, the acceptance of things as they are.

Eagles are spectacular even by casual observance. It takes more time watching gulls to realize their special attributes. I spent time watching them at the ocean, and once posted on some brilliant habits of gulls.

Kathy, I learned a long time ago that I better learn to like myself, and be happy with and enjoy what I have today.  It is OK to strive to improve yourself, and to aquire the better things in life.  But you need to enjoy them along the way, because if you don't then you will never be happy.

We need to feel like an Eagle even if we look like a turkey :) :)

Todd- Darn I should have thought to call you first LOL :)  Bored....go take another family day :)

Gary- Both Thesa and Ann have been here for along time, and with the size of this network now it's not as easy to find everyone as it used to be. However it is worth the effort :)

Sarah- I knew you would find the message here......one that your mentor teaches well :)  Both Thesa and Ann are great.....and I know they both have years of experience in their respective areas, and also years now of online experience too.  And you are so right about if everything was the same we would indeed be missing something.

Deborah- Thank you...and isn't it amazing what you see and learn from just watching?

George- Oh thank you for the smile....yes" we need to feel like an Eagle even if we look like a Turkey"  I love that, and it's so true.  Your points are good ones, and if we don't accept ourselves then who will?

While I am a great raptor admirer, and I agree that sea gulls ( otherwise known as sky rats ) cannot be eagles, it would be unfair to convince them to be satisfied with their lot. One of my favorite books is Jonathon Livingston Seagull, a little story of a gull who refused to accept his limitations and learned to soar with the eagles. All he had to do was............ just do it.

6:30am • #29

Great post once again, Kathy.   There are those days where I feel even less than a seagull and more like their TARGET.  haha.

PS.  Take a look and see that I decided to spread my wings and change companies.  I am so excited with all the new opportunities this will bring.  I hope you are doing well!

Dear Kathy, 11/24/08

That was a beautiful story and very inspirational to me. I lived in Vail Colorado a while back and we had a natural Eagles nest above our home and we protected them big time. There was a mom, dad and baby and they were beautiful over our home everyday. The freedom they had and the beauty they brought to our lives; our three children loved seeing them sour above us and watch over our lives. It's a amazing the joys you take for granded until they are no longer in your life. I now live in Florida and I do not see sights like Vail anymore. Thank you for the story it was amazing.

And I saw what you wrote to Jay - perhaps there will be a day this summer when I'll get to see one in person as well, while dining on freshly caught lobster right off the boat while watching eagles soar.....  one of these days.  I can dine on fresh lobster here anytime since this is lobster haven where I live, but I want to do so with eagles in my sight.   ;-)

Hi Kathy!  What a truly inspirational story!  Whether we're seagulls aspiring to be eagles or adults aspiring to be 'the best', we can do ANYTHING that we dream!  After watching my husband fight the fight of his life and WIN, I realized that attitude is EVERYTHING and that we can overcome what is thrown at us if we approach it with the right attitude.

Ron-Johnathan L. Seagull was indeed a great story.  there are several with this theme and all are about believing in yourself.

Mark- Hi...I was wondering where you went, and missed you in our So Cal Pass Area Group.  It sounds like this move was a good one, and for that I am happy for you.

Lori Ann-I hear you loud and clear...once we have seen beauty (positives)  it is hard to deal with the loss.  But we can, and we just need to replace it with something else.  You might not have any Eagles where you live now, but then again they didn't have any swamps or alligators in Colorado :) Each chapter of our lives has something that is and can be as beautiful as an Eagle Soaring, we just have to look up........

Pat- I am glad that this Post reached you, and that you got what you needed at that moment; and it does indeed "start with us."

Marian- Hope you and yours had a Great Thanksgiving Day, and find enjoyment in the rest of the Holiday Season.

Pam- You said it so well, and now that I know Sally is doing a Contest.....I really am looking foreword to your entry...I love the way a child sees the world.  Fresh and without the fear of rejection, or the stress of expectation....just wonder and excitement.

Also thank you for the warm wishes....I send them all back to you at least ten fold :) :)  that and Louie Armstrong...What a Wonderful World :)

Maybe another way of saying this is that although a seagull may never be able to be an eagle, there may be eagles that don't live to their full potential and go through life acting like seagulls.

We all have the potential to be greater than we are. Stop being a seagull. Be an eagle!

I am going to have to agree with Ron Tiller, as I too am a fan of Jonathan Livingston Seagull.  I have seen eagles fish the Hood River Canal, and soar above Lake Billy Chinook; I have also seen playful seagulls enjoy the storm fronts and play on the coastal currents no different than a raptor would.  I could be the seagull to the everyday observer,  but in the mirror I might just see the eagle.
