November 22, 1963 the day that President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was shot in Dallas Texas in an open car parade with wife Jaqueline Kennedy riding along his side. I was five years old and watched it on TV. I was too young to know why anyone would possibly want to kill our president and his Camelot. He was very well liked but not without enemies. The 60's were very turbulent times.  LBJ, college campus riots, the Vietnam War, The Beatles, Nixon, young radicals, the Black Panthers, Fidel Castro and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I saw Oliver Stone/ Kevin Costner's Movie "JFK" last night about his Assassination. It left a lot of questions about the Warren Commission, the single bullet theory and possible military conspiracies to kill JFK. Where were you on Nov 22, 1963? Why dont we have a JFK day on Nov 22??

Hi Stephen,

I was 6 years old and watching my mom paint my room pink, which of course I tried to help her.  I was GREAT in art, but I believe I didn't stay in the lines of the walls. LOL

I remember my Mom getting a call from my neighbor, and saying "Oh my G_d!!!" and putting the living room TV on and sitting on the sofa and crying.  I remember her telling me what had happened and I was trying to understand.  When we watched the TV, they kept showing the JFK murder in his riding car.  I believe I learned how CRAZY our world was!

Stephen, I was not born yet but I've always found it troubling when a director such as Oliver Stone takes a stance on a certain issue.  People don't sometimes realize he is making a movie about his views not necessarily the truth.  And most people don't have the same size soap box from which to shout their views as Oliver Stone.  You might consider taking the time to read the Warren Commission's report to hear both sides of the story....All of that being said I did enjoy the movie and I am glad you took the time to write a blog about such an important time in this countries history.  According to my parents it was a special time to be an American and it was cut way to short.

thanks for your comments Ted. I agree that Oliver Stone has his own soap box and can make a movie about his views or whatever he likes. I like to write posts that make people think and I think that's what makes Oliver Stone a great Movie Producer! I agree with you that both sides of every story should always be heard but at the time he made the movie these theories had not been given equal air time.

Stephen,

I don't disagree with your points one bit and I agree at the time this movie came out only the Warren Commission was speaking on the subject.  However I find it difficult to give the American public the benefit of the doubt.  Remember there are some conspiracy theorists out there that don't believe we landed on the moon.  But I love the post because it did make me think about the tragedy of JFK's death.  And who knows, how much can we really trust a government commission....

Stephen, in 1963 I wasn't born yet.  My dad was in college, my mom was in high school!  So although I know about JFK, Martin Luther King, etc., it is only through textbooks.  There's a whole generation (or 2) that don't recognize its importance.

Oh my goodness!  Your post did get me thinking about where I was when the President was shot. I was at School in class.  I think it was in our English Class when all of a sudden the intercom came on and the office broadcast the whole ordeal over the air.  I, and 3 of my friends just sat there in shock. Well, so did the whole class.  It took several minutes just to figure out what all the yelling was about.  I had never heard of anyone getting murdered before... Because no one moved after the class bell we pulled out our snacks and ate sitting there.  I was eating corn nuts.  I think I was in the 8th grade.  I understood what happened.  I didn't see any tv coverage until the news that night.

But more than anything else about your post I read that some of the other posters weren't even born yet! And then I remembered, HEY!  I'm the old one here.  HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???  I still FEEL young!

Steve.. I like your idea of Nov. 22nd being JFK day.  I don't see why we don't have that already.

I was sick with pneumonia and a temp of 104 (I was very young then) laying on the livingroom couch watching the funeral precession.. I don't remember the actual day when he got shot.. but I think this comes close.

I was in India and we did not have school because of the assassination.  We in India admired  President Kennedy.

I watched it on tv, as a teenager it was the start of a whole new world perspective that is continually being reinforced as I age.  Global politics, economics, and communication are surreal and complex but a reality we have to deal with.  I just pray they can keep Obama alive better than they did JFK!

Thanks for your comments Steve. Presidential Security of course as seen thru Obama's campaign is so much better now than it was back in JFK's day

Keep in mind that "JFK" is not a documentary. It's historical fiction.

I was at the hospital with my dad and brother because my sister was born on November 22, 1963.

Russel I guess it depends upon how you view the movie and from what perspective? It is a movie of course so it has director's Oliver Stone's interpretation written all over it!
