Over the last six months, my real estate business has changed considerably. When I first entered the industry in 2003, being a REALTOR involved showing homes, qualifying buyers, performing inspections, and surviving closing. However in the last six months, my roles have expanded considerably. While the job has not changed, what has been required of us has.
Charlotte, being a heavy relocation market, attracts many buyers who arrive without employment. They have chosen to move to the Queen City because of the quality of life, affordability of the housing, abundant job market, educational opportunities, and the list goes on. Those who are not corporately relocated are now seeking out someone to help them find a job. We're not head hunters but being on the ground and plugged into the local economy and able to help many of our clients find work.
Another client has asked us to help find him a reputable business broker to acquire a related business to one he has already. We're not in the business brokerage business but we have been able to utilize our growing network to provide him with the resources he needs to move forward.
One request we get often is regarding construction / home repair work. While we cannot take responsibility for that contractor, we don't mind sharing the names of those who have done work for us or our clients and have great reviews.
The recent woes in the economy has left many buyers with credit that is in need of repair. Until recently, barring a recent bankruptcy or foreclosure, mediocre credit was more than enough to get a mortgage. Now, we are working with reputable credit counselors who are helping to restore their credit and save money on their future mortgage. Many of these buyers are also now saving for their future and learning good credit habits so they don't end up in the same situation the next time life throws them a curve ball.
There are a number of other related functions we are asked to serve as and we do so willingly. Who knows, maybe a dating service may be next but whatever the task or the need, we're there for our clients.
