Don't be a Turkey on Thanksgiving...be a turducken!
Back in Nov. 2007 I posted this blog so I thought it would be nice to revisit it by repositng it for this years Gala Holiday Event. This year I'm off to take my family to Disney for Thanksgiving.
Selling homes in Weston Florida can really be hectic at this time of the year and with the holidays approaching....I'm sure everyone is making big plans to spend extra time with their families. Tomorrow it will be Thanksgiving and I'm just here to talk a little bit about the food we eat on this gracious day.
Just remember that this holiday is for giving thanks and beside giving thanks I'm going to be eating quite a bit of food. "Ah...I can smell the aroma now...those candied yams...the cranberry sauce....the mashed potatoes with gravy and don't forget that stuffing...just to name a few."Of course to top it all off we usually have the traditional 40lb turkey or the that sweet succulentham with brown sugar and pineapples on top. There is usually so many different types of foods and I'm not sure I have enough room to fit it all in my tummy and keep my girlish figure.
But I think this year we might try something a little different...has anyone ever heard of a Turducken? Yes..you heard that right....a Turducken. From the parital definition taken from wikipidea......a Turducken is a de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck.. which itself is stuffed with a small de-boned chicken.
If you are a football fan you might remember a few years ago during the NFL double feature of games shown on CBS and later Fox....John Madden would talk about all the delicious foods and how he would have his annual Turducken as part of his holiday dinner. I remember he even went as far as to bring it during a regular season game after he saw a patron actually roasting one in the parking lot. John Madden is a big boy!
Sharing food with your friends and family is a great way to catch up with people you haven't seen in a long time and another way to enjoy relaxing in your home. Weston Florida is going to be a very exciting place this year to celebrate the holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families!

Hey Neal - every time I hear that word, 'turducken', I can't help but think of John Madden. I remember him talking about those years ago, and at the time, I'd never heard anyone else say that word. I thought he had made it up!
Neal - the food looks pretty good. Even the turducken (yep I have heard of it but never tried one -heard they are quite good, and Lenn confirms it). Have a great holiday with your family at Disneyland.
Looks yummy and interesting! I'm still getting used to our turkey being deep fried!! Very moist and yummy but hard to grasp the concept sometimes! Happy Thanksgiving!
Neal - I've been sneaking into AR in between my preparations for Turkey Day and came across your post. Turducken, football and John Madden all go hand in hand at Thanksgving. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving at Disney with your family! My granddaughter and her mom and dad are there too enjoying the festivities.
I have always wanted to try a Turducken! The boys (and girl we are babysitting) have Merrick's Turducken in a can for their T-Day. I don't think I will try that kind :crinkle face:
What a beautiful family and enjoy Disney! Happy TDAY!
Neil I remember that blog. I think that it was one of the first times that I heard about a Turducken. Thanks for showing us a picture of your family, it is a big improvement over the one with you alone :) :)
Hi Neal, Happy Thanksgiving to you and Wendy and your adorable daughter. I love the photo. Have a great time at Disney World, must be nice to live so close. We are freezing here today.
I've had Turducken...really good, but I prefer turkey....my sister is a vegetarian so a couple of years back she made a ToFurkey....my advice for this is run, run, run....don't ever try this one. Just because it's in the shape of a Turkey doesn't mean it still has the flavor of Tofu.
Hi Neal - I like the new family pic! Hope there's more than the three of you to take on a turducken, all of the side dishes, and dessert. Happy Thanksgiving!
Neal - from our family to yours, I hope you have a great TurDucken Day! Thanks for being such a good friend, I am truly grateful for that! Enjoy the Day and your family today...... and everyday. :-)
Neal.... I remember part of this post from last year... and when John Madden talked about a turducken back then, I just thought he has been sipping some wine with Al Michaels... lol Thanks for the turkey lesson.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family... even though I am late to the party. And I like the new pic.
Same to you as well...just got kicked out of the Lennon Room at the Hard Rock...thought I could get back in and told them I was here for the AR party and wanted to use my leftover drink tickets:)
Jeremy,
Couldn't find Jon...he doesn't like to fly.
John,
I will and I did....you do too!
Cicely,
To each-es own...if it tastes good then that's all that counts...I just prefer a mix.:)
Thanks Bud...good to see you...they don't really like Turkey as much as I do..anyway we ended up at Margaritaville instead....I had a big steak!
Brad,
Always my good friend so far away....just as I told Missy....I went back to River walk and tried to get back into the Lennon room at the Hard Rock...I told them that I had all these drink tickets that you gave me...but they said I couldn't get in without my official AR shirt which I'm still waiting for.:)..Happy to you and your family!
Jeanette,
Thanks for stopping by...hope you had a good one as well.
Gena,
Thanks....we didn't have much time to find one so I settled for steak instead...Oh well maybe next year....I have lots of turkey during the year anyway:)
Elizabeth,
Way too much food for me to stuff down much stomach anyway:) Hope yours was a great day!
Jeff,
You are always late to the party from what you say at others parties...I hope you had a great time spending it with your family...I rarely post any pictures of my family on the Internet for other reasons but I changed my mind today.
Now that you mention it Turducken did come up some years ago and it probably was big John Madden who I heard it from. He ought to know a thing or two about good food. Happy after Thanksgiving.
Neal- Loved the pictures made me hungry all over again.......and I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Next Holiday right around the corner.....:)
Hi to my friend in Weston. Yes, Weston is a wonderful and beautiful place to spend the Holiday's. As far as the Turduckin...they are delicious!! I used to live in Sarasota and they have a restaurant that specialized in Turduckin....in fact it was featured on The Food Channel...ummm good!!!
Sorry I'm late but we didn't get back from Orlando until Monday. We actually didn't have any turkey at all so I surprised you all. We couldn't find a place that had any Turduckens either but I'll tell you...it's awesome if you get a chance...maybe I'll get my wife to cook one for our annual holiday party this year.
Hi Neal, Being a traditionalist, the thought of Turducken does not sound all that appealing. Love the Turkey not sure I can handle duck with it, lol. But all the other stuff sounded great. I cook the traditional meal and I will say it was near fabulous. I use the word near because I don't to brag too much, LOL.

Turducken! Yes.
I got one from Balducci's in 2005. Wonderful. You'll love it.
