How far can you see into the future?

Or who is going to win the national election?

In the old days long before the internet and daily polling, we used to have these old sayings or guidelines or "predictors" for National Presidential elections. One example is: As Maine goes, so goes the Nation.  In other words, once you knew the voting outcome in Maine that predicted who would win the entire election for President.

So it is in that spirit that I bring you this little nugget.  In 9 out of the last 10 years for the town of Fairfield, the results in January have predicted how the year would finish.  If unit sales were up, the year finished with more sales than the prior year. If unit sales were down, the year finished with fewer sales than the past  year.

This means enjoy the holidays, watch or read all the yearend analysis on TV, the Internet or in the newspapers you want.  The story for the year will be written on February 1st when we know how January finished. Keep you fingers crossed and stay tuned!
