OK I was excited when my IQ was discovered to be the same number as my shoe size but now I am really excited. The number of post I have made is coinciding with my actual age. No, I am not going to tell you what the number is but you can do a bit of detective work and discover that it is 55. OOPS! I did not mean to let that slip out. Now this number is not that great (there are some who seem to be able to do this in a week) but the fact that it is corresponding with my age is meaningful to me.
Anyway, my age is related to this post. I am discovering that this home staging thing is stretching me beyond my comfort zone on many levels. The learning curve for the marketing, networking and especially the twenty new software programs I am learning (OK not twenty but it feels like it).
So my point is that we can stretch ourselves at any age. Personal growth comes from doing something you have not done before. I mean after all if you have done it is not much of a stretch. So what stops us from doing what we want to do? FEAR-usually.
So I say Go for the Roar. What does that mean? I will share a story that was the favorite of one of my teachers, Dr. Ron Herring.
It seems that in Africa, lions are the King of the Jungle, so to speak. And one of their favorite foods is gazelles. Now the problem is that gazelles are very, very fast and difficult to catch, especially as the lions age, become arthritic, lose their teeth, as well as their speed. So the lions developed this strategy. The older lions would find a large patch of grass, kneel down, and hide themselves while the younger lions would go round up a bunch of gazelles and begin herding them toward the older lions. The gazelles would be running from the younger lions and then just as they came upon the older lions, these arthritic and near harmless old timers would jump up and let out a huge roar which would frighten the gazelles causing them to turn around and flee with even greater fear running right smack into the younger lions and then they would be caught, killed, and eaten.
The moral of this story is to always-
Go for the Roar-that is the way out. Do what you are most afraid of doing. Go beyond your comfort zone, which is the fastest way toward personal growth. Resolve to do one thing every week that you are afraid of doing. So whether you win lose or draw, the growth comes from the attempt itself.
Awesome post James! :) Fear keeps us from the BEST life has to offer! One of my sayings I live by is "DO IT AFRAID"!!! Just DO IT...FEEL THE FEAR...and then once you get on the other side of it...you're FREE!!! :)
