This house was bad for their health.

 Smoke damage

I crept into a foreclosure this week as we usually do.  You never know what you might find.

I really thought that there had perhaps been a fire in the house because of the color of the ceilings and the look of wallpaper in the hall.

After taking my pictures I met a neighbor and asked what had happened to the house.  She replied, "They both died within just a few months of each other."

"Were they old?"

"No, they just smoked themselves to death," she replied.

So that explains the look of this hall.

That is not even a slight surprise!  As a non-smoker, I can even smell smokers when they walk up to me.  It is all around them in so many ways!

Barbara, if you think the walls and ceiling looks bad you should have seen the owners lungs, it's sickening to think about it. So what's the required disclosure about smokers and death in the home here?

Barbara, I know the dangers of smoking (and yes I'm a smoker)!  I should know better, it cost $2,000 to have my own home painted and de-smoked before I sold it last year!

Ronald, the world used to smell that way when everyone smoked.  I guess I did too even though I never smoked.

Charles, thanks for stopping by!

Steve, as far as I know there is no disclosure.  Anyone can see the house condition.  I don't know whether they died in the house but don't find it relevant.

Rob, since it has been empty for a long time, the smell was about gone.

Laura, bet you don't smoke inside your house anymore!  You probably head for the back porch!

Charlie, thanks for your comment!

Mary Strang, it's an interesting picture, isn't it?

Carol, the smokers would never believe it.  I personally think they must have had an easy chair in that hall in order to smoke up the hall that bad.

I think it's really sad.  I've heard very few smokers say that they haven't tried to quit multiple times.

I am glad that I never liked it & never started, no superior attitude, I just didn't enjoy it

Catherine, bad heavy smokers!!  Thanks for comments.

Pat, when I was young and was offered the cigarette, I knew I couldn't afford the habit so I said no. At that time cigarettes were probably 30 cents per pack.  That's being pretty poor, isn't it.  But I'm thankful that I never started.

Barbara - That is so sad.  Maybe this will encourage other smokers to quit.

Debi, perhaps it will if they see it.  Smokers are pretty stubborn, however.

Nothing will make a smoker stop until they are READY to do so on their own.

I smoked for several years and quit when I started my family. That's what made me want to stop. Funny thing now I'm allergic to smoke and can smell it on anyone who smokes and can't stand to be in a home of smokers, it makes me sick within minutes.

Good luck on this house Barbara, it's really bad!

Donna, you are right.  My husband was one of the stubborn smokers.  He went through hypnosis and was doing fine with no cigarettes.  Then he decided to just try one since he'd quit successfully.  He was off again.  Then he went through acupuncture and it worked.  He's been smoke free for probably 20 plus years.  There's nothing like a reformed smoker to make other smokers mad, however, cause he can get on their cases and be really mean to them.  LOL
