What is blogging all about?

I keep hearing the new buzz word (ok not that new) Blogs. Is this the newest magic pll for Realtors? I have written a few blogs but nothing consistant and I was wondering if there is a real value to blogging or is it just a way for postaholics to have an outlet?

I have many thoughts to blog but am I wasting my time. I am not a postaholic but feel the need to get my thoughts out.

I would like to know if any one has gotten any benifits from blogging?  PLease comment so I can know if I am the only one reading this or have I just started my postaholic days!

 Thanks

Hi Laurine, I'm on my first week here on AR and I'm convinced that I need to keep on posting.  I did a real estate search for my area and one of my posts were first on the list.  Phone hasn't rang yet, but I haven't even really started on Localism yet.  Cruise around and read some posts. There are some great success stories!

Laurine,

It depends on what the "thoughts" are that you have the need to "get out". Active Rain fulfills a couple of different outlets via blogging. One, it connects us all in different levels, both business and personal, Two, It gives prolific writers a chance to blossom, Three, It gives the Lurker a lot to read and Four, it gets our "name" out on Search engines.

There are some here that have gotten business from blogging and some that have not. Again, it's all subjective.

A lot of people have their own blogs elsewhere on the web. Do they get business? Maybe, maybe not, but blogging is a way to voice your opinions and Active Rain blogging is a way to keep not only connected but on top of new technologies.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Laurine - people blog for different reasons. While I certainly do enjoy the outlet and comradery that ActiveRain provides, bottom line I want to generate business through my blogging. And I have already had business as a result of my involvement here, so yes, there is tremendous benefit from your time and energies expended here. Let me know if you have any additional questions....

Blogging is about sharing your experiences, learing from each other, networking, and getting name exposure on the Internet. It is just one of the many things I do to promote myself and my business. I don't do a great deal of blogging, but every little bit helps. I have notices serval vists to my website via Active Rain. So, it is a matter of time until I begin to start receiving the benefits!

Honestly I've been using this site now for 6 weeks and have received 10+ leads from consumers and Realtors who have sent me referrals from meeting me here. You simply can't measure the value of blogging. It is free and the ROI is 1000%+ if you do it right.

I've been responding to blogs but haven't written my own yet.  I have a sneaking suspicion that, like early websites, early bloggers established good reputations - but when EVERYBODY starts having their "15 minutes of fame", will many of the new bloggers be really visible?

I don't know the answer to that, but I intend to give it a good try to find out.

Another contract today from a localism post.  I am beginning to count on two hands how many AR/Localism contracts I have entered.  Shaping up to be another one by Wednesday of next week :)

Blogging is VERY beneficial!
