GIFT-BUYERS BEWARE - RETURNS AND CREDIT - NOT!

This year with less money available for families to spend, be aware of special return restrictions on electronic or seasonal items.  Stores have severely tightened their return policies in general, thus making it harder to indulge on items and then expect to be able to return the items with no consequences!

Check out a store's return policy.  Stores are monitoring how often returns are made and if you exceed the store's established limit you will be unable to make a return even with a receipt.  If you are denied ask for the store manager.  Many can override the store's policies.  Also remember there are different policies for on-line and store return items.  Some will only allow store credit.  Make sure you follow a retailer's policies.  You can check in the consumer service department or on the retailer's website.

You may want to rethink purchasing gift cards this year.  If you purchase a gift card and the retail establishment has financial difficulties in 2009 these gift cards may not be honored.  Also check to see if there is a penalty for not using the card immediately.  Many charge a fee that is deducted from the face value on the card after a certain period of time.  Each month after that a fee is charged and deducted from the card, eventually resulting in a 0 balance!  My precious granddaughter learned a valuable lesson last year after hording her gift cards for just the right items and finding her gift amounts were reduced drastically!

Enjoy the holiday season just be SHOPPER SMART when making your purchases!
