Each year McCullough Junior High students, in The Woodlands, Texas, in 8th grade history choose a United States Veteran to Honor!  (the LARGEST Jr. High in TEXAS!!!!!)

Lets remember to be thankful this Thanksgiving to our military serving us ... thank you!!!!

Students are required to:

  • Interview the veteran
  • Identify the branch of the military they served in .. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and the Coast Guard
  • Years of service
  • Other Key features
  • Additional Medals and Honors
  • Finally laminating a poster of their veteran!

The posters are then displayed in front of the school during the week of Veteran's Day.

"Thank you Grandpa!!!" ... My Daughter honored her grandfather, Jack McLennan, who was in the ARMY ...  you are appreciated for all you have done!!!!

Please invite your family and friends and ESPECIALLY any veteran you know to come and see this impressive display of posters honoring over 1000 veterans.

The hope is that through this activity the students will acquire a greater appreciation for the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve in the U.S. Military and learn to express that appreciation by taking the time to honor an individual in the armed services.

That display of posters strung between the trees is awesome Pippa. You are such a great photographer and provide us with so many of the pictures.

Pippa,

Great article and pics.  It is important to support our veterans.  Without their commitment and service to our country, we would all not be where we are today.  Thanks again.

Gary .. I agree to see the posters strung between trees was sooo moving!!!!!  The kids were walking in the mud complaining and the teachers were telling them to be "quiet, appreciative and thankful for everything our armed forces have done" ...  I didn't mind ruining a pair of "heels" after hearing that speech !!!!

What a beautiful tribute to our military!  And a heartwarming tribute to Jack McClennan - a very special grandpa I'm sure.

Pippa:  What an impressive and moving display. My Father was in the Army National Guard, but never fought in any war. Nonetheless, I was, and still am, very proud of him!
