2008 has been a year of economic stress in American Households * 2009 faces a similar reality

When considering your budget for 2009, if charitable contributions are a budget item being cut, you'll be pleased to know that you can still budget to help others in need. It is the gift of life.

  • There are 8760 hours per year.
  • 1 hour every 56 days is all it takes.
  • 6 hours of your time each year saves 18 lives per year

It's all about the blood.  It's the blood that is the river of life and the river isn't flowing like it should.

60% of Americans are eligible to donate blood.  5% of them donate.

17% of non-donors say they don't think to donate blood. THINK.

15% of non-donors say they don't have time. 4.5 Million Americans are out of time.

Burn Victims, Cancer Patients, Accident Victims, Sickle Cell Patients and Premature Babies need Blood Transfusions and platelets just to survive.  Patients that are Anemic or need Organ Transplants need Blood Transfusions just to survive. Heart Attacks often lead to surgery that requires Blood Transfusions just to survive.

1100 Blood Donors are Necessary Every Day in the United States to save these lives.

Are you sure you cannot afford it?

Are you sure you don't have the time?

Have you thought about it now?

BLOOD DONATION IS LESS THAN ONE HOUR OF YOUR TIME AND IT  SAVES LIVES.

Great post Amanda, on the need for blood donations. I am trying to get around to my office week after Thanksgiving when we have this drive to donate.

Gary, the blood supply is critically low.  I hope you'll post about your office blood drive so that it gets even more exposure.

Amanda, sorry it took so long today to respond...I thought I got locked out for obscenity.  Just kidding...Great post, I put one out about free rice from the UN.  We all are great people who just happen to be realtors.  We care about our communities and the world.  Everyone gets caught up in their own circumstances, but this is a great time of year to think about others.  Kudos, my friend, kudos.  Thanks for giving me some more food for thought, instead of my stomach!

Amanda - great idea to post this now!  Many of us are lower on funds and it's a good reminder that we can help without any dent in the budget.

It is the donation that doesn't cost a dime!  People can still give!  I go like clockwork every 56 weeks and have blogged and blogged again!  Now my son is sucked in because they take your blood when you are 16 now!

Great idea Amanda!  There is a big shortage here, they are offering a gift card to all who donate.  The last time I tried I didn't have a high enough count - I need to take time to try again!  This is a good reminder for me.

Thank you ALL for stopping by and commenting!

JMac -- It doesn't even take an hour anymore!  It's so fast, it's unreal. I donated last week and was in and out in 30 minutes.   Spread the word!

April -- You might be able to donate these days.  If not, you could write a post about your area blood bank or an upcoming blood drive.

Cristal -- I just found out my son can donate and he's qualified for double red! I am also an every 56 days donor and I am taking him with my son in about 48 days as well!

Russell -- You rock and you know it.  So does Margaret.  :)

Pippa -- Hey back at ya, Georgeous! You can donate every 56 days!  Blog for Blood when you donate and get other people to donate as well! (I'll be back in Houston soon...will call you so we can make plans to meet up.)

Russell -- 25 gallons?  WOW! Did you know that when the average person donates a unit of blood, they burn enough calories while replacing their own blood that they lose a pound???  I'm thinking people who want to lose weight in 2009 should just donate blood!

Richard -- I love this cause because there are no boundaries or stigmas attached to it.  I don't care who are, you need blood and there is nothing political, religious, racial or economical about it.  It is truly an equal opportunity cause and I know that 100% of my donation is being used for the greater good with extremely low opportunity for corruption.

Stephanie -- It's the river of life!  Blood banks are located in hospitals and most people live near hospitals.  The only expense is a gallon of gas to get there yet there is such a tremendous shortage.  It really is sad.

Georgina -- Every 56 days is that time again around here.  It is during the summer months and the holidays that the blood supply is critically low.  There is only one reason the supply is low--what is given is being used.  Very sad.

JL -- I knew I couldn't keep anything from you.  :)

Chris -- You know it!  This cause is such a no brainer!  I was talking to a guy the other day who said he couldn't donate because of his tattoos.  When I told him that YOU CAN donate if you have tattoos, he tried to tell me he doesn't like needles.  (I threw my pen at him.)

Melody -- Yes, I do know how you feel about it.  Thanks for stopping by Blog For a Cause!

Suzanne -- Locked out for obscenity?  LOL!  So glad you made it in!

GARY, GARY, GARY--I hope you will write a post about the upcoming blood drive so that it has even more exposure!

Jason -- The comment spamming does seem to be on the rise.  I think I figured out how to handle it, though. Glad you like the logo--I've been in hiding working on the Hall Team Homes makeover!

It's always great chatting with you!

Russell -- It's a public post!  Who does that?

Amanda, great timing!  Blood is really big this month with that new vampire movie and all!  But seriously, you're right.  Giving blood is a great thing to do.  Lots of people need it badly.
