How do you feel about non real estate professional on Active Rain? I ran across a few posts that were not really about real estate. The people who post the Blog are admitted non real estate pro's. I think this is a mistake by Active Rain to let these people comment here on Active Rain. My opinion if your not involve in real estate you should not be here. The people are here just to sell us on a book or some other service. What is your take?

How does this happen? Are they allowed to join? I think they should not be allowed on some issues although their are some consumer issues in Real Estate that it would be interesting to get their points of views on.

I agree with you. Sharing ideas or having a disucussion between Realtors or even Realtor support (Loan offices, stages, inspectors, appraisers, etc) is one think; but a pitch to buy a service is another. Yes, we post listing, which I think of diferenntly than 'buy this book'.. I responded to a post on marketing yourself the other day and talked about a service I have susbscribed to; but finished with a statement that I had not financial stake in use of that service.
I get enough SPAM elsewhere.

Two problems that I see....
#1) Do we really want to get into a situation where we are limiting (and thus, in effect, censoring) members and their opinions?
#2) Do you really think that, if people really want to join this site, they will not lie about their profession to gain membership?
The spammers will weed themselves out..

I agree that we disagree. I am not one for censoring. I am not the board police or do I care to be. What I thought when I join this was to be a real estate forum. These people are not lieing about what they do. if you read their profile it states other non real estate. I do not want the phone call to buy a book about how to do something in real estate. I just want AR to be aware of this pratice. Say what you want and write what you want. That is ok with me just dont call me.
