Please check the Public Interest Research Group's (known as PIRG) 23rd Annual Toy Story Safety Report at http://www.uspirg.org/ before shopping for children this year for Christmas. Every year PIRG publishes a report to show their findings. This year PIRG has discovered many toys are still on the shelves that contain lead and phthalates which can cause birth defects. In February 2009 these toys will be deemed illegal as of a new bill signed into law. Unfortunately the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has allowed these toys to remain on the shelves until sold out and you don't want to be the purchaser of these soon to be banned items! PIRG also found small trinket items being sold that a small child could choke on.
This year shoppers need to be frugal in purchases so make sure what you are buying is safe and what the child really wants.
