Lately, this is about all I ever hear. From the Realtors, it is "I really wish they would lower rates so my clients will get off the fence". For lenders and loan officers, it is "I really wish they would lower home prices so my clients would get off the fence". For consumers it is "I really wish they would sweeten the pot even more so that the deal would
be better so I can get off the fence".
The problem with this type of thinking is the fact that it is passive in nature. Instead of taking control of the situation, we are allowing for someone or something to control us. As for the answer to all of these, I have to state this: I really wish that people would realize that home prices and rates are historically low. The time to take a mortgage and buy that property is NOW. The problem with waiting is the fact that what may be available today may become history tomorrow.
People are calling for the economy to be spurred on by lower rates and better home prices. However, if we did what we get paid to do, we would be the catalyst to this economy. In Sales 101, we learn that we have to work to make a sale. Unlike apples, pears, and oranges, actual sales are not grown on trees. We have to cultivate them ourselves. If we depend on the rates to drop, the home prices to get lower, or even the sweetest deal in the world to appear, then we are going to be waiting around for a long time.
I heard a saying a long time back. It goes like this: The reason their is no door on you cubicle is the fact that you have yet to prove that you are a closer. That came out of car sales. It holds a lot of truth to our industries as well. Take it for what it is worth, but the closers are making money today while others are starving. Can you get your customer off the fence by yourself or do you need someone to do it for you?
