I just thought I would write a quick note regarding my favorite websites for getting information about a property or client I'm quoting. In the insurance industry and I'm sure in real estate too it's important that we have ALL the facts. Maybe there's one out there that you haven't seen or used before!
https://www.accesskent.com/Property/ -- This one is a given, i'm sure we're all familliar with this it. It gives property information for homes and business in Kent County. I use it to look at aerial photos and identify homes when using on-line mapping
http://www.barrycounty.org/online-services/parcel-search/ - Barry County parcel look-up. It's a little like AccessKent, but not as functional. When viewing property info there is a link at the top of the page to view the plat map so you can identify the property on an aerial map
https://is.bsasoftware.com/bsa.is/PublicDirectory.aspx -- BSA Software handles the assessing information systems for many many municipalities throughout the state. This is a list of all of the municipalities they represent. I use this daily. Some assessors even have pictures.
http://maps.live.com/-- The best site for aerial viewing. Type in an address and click birds eye view to see properties up close and personal!
http://maps.google.com/ -- Google maps has a great feature called street view. Type in an address where they have street view images and you'll be amazed at what you can see. Click the 'full screen' link to get a large image just like if you were driving around town. This works well in Grand Rapids.
http://maps.yahoo.com/ -- Yahoo has better county and township labels on their maps than the rest. If you can't find out what municipality a home is in through accesskent or another route this mapping site works well.
http://www.kalcounty.com/equalization/parcel_search.php -- This site helps identify owners and municipalities for addresses in Kalamazoo County.
http://www.dleg.state.mi.us/bcs_corp/sr_corp.asp -- This site allows you to look up any business entity in Michigan. This is helpful for commercial clients to make sure you have the EXACT spelling and wording of their name. It also will help identify entity owners if you're not sure about that. View annual filings with this tool.
Maybe you already know about these, but they're sites I use every day. I hope someone finds them useful!
Great post Mike - I am bookmarking this one!
