Earth Day...Welcome to Active Rain...Burbank (Green) Construction of Providence, RI

I would like you to join me in welcoming to Active Rain...........

BURBANK CONSTRUCTION of Providence, Rhode Island                      burbank construction RI

Burbank Construction in Providence, Rhode Island is passionately doing their part to create earth-friendly affordable housing. Check this out:

"Burbank Construction's dedication is to renovating the mills in and around Providence, Rhode Island, transforming them into "Mixed Use" facilities. The "Mixed Use" conversion shall consist of residential, condo studio lofts, cafés, galleries, performance spaces, rooftop parks/gardens and greenhouses. The company's vision is to create sustainable, affordable alternatives to normal urban dwelling and inhabitance; Residents may purchase a modestly priced living space, while existing as part of a sound, balanced environment and vibrant artistic community."

Owner Ben Burbank is proud of his LEED certified methods. He is truly a concerned Rhode Island native who has put incredible amounts of energy into his community. He can be seen offering local bands a place to play their music and "get heard in the city", and he has welcomed numerous young aspiring artists to display their works in open gallery space he provides for their use. He organizes benefit local baseball teams, and has been known to hit a ball out of the park himself.

HOW HAS BURBANK CONSTRUCTION GONE THE EXTRA MILE IN THEIR MISSION TO BE GREEN?

  • in addition to rooftop gardening, low flow toilets, energy efficient heating/cooling/appliances and windows...these green spaces are constructed close to public transportation and offer ground level storage for bicycles.
  • as much of the original buildings as possible is salvaged to minimize "tear down waste"; the original hardwood floors are beautiful.
  • staging the properties to sell has kept the earth-friendly methods going with custom window coverings that block out cold air yet allow sunlight to fill the space with light. When the curtains are open, the sunlight warms the inner brick walls which retain and radiate warmth.
  • to cut down on future waste, Burbank Construction utilizes "movable inner walls" to allow all owners to change the inner space to fit their individual needs. Often with urban condos, inner walls are fixed, and if a new owner wants to make a room larger or smaller they must knock down walls and create waste. Not the case with these ingenious "moveable walls"

Sue - you did good!!! I checked their site out and it is a perfect day for them to join. I have a half an acre behind me that I am considering for a green modular home. Move into it and sell the one I am in.

Welcome and we look forward to the valuable information they will contribute.

Sheron, good idea, a green modular home. Ask Burbank Construction for ideas. We should get a LEED engineer in at Active Rain. Maybe I'll ask Burbank bout that.

Thanks Sue for the introduction.  We are excited to hear and share environmental, green and sustainable building ideas with all of you.  We know that "green" has become a hip building term these days, but we believe it to be much more.  Green building should not just be a passing trend; it should be the recognized, accepted and only way to build.

Our main focus is on urban rehabilitation in Providence, RI and the surrounding cities.  We specialize in the renovation of historic buildings, while adding LEED certified practices to make them sustainable living environments.  Ideas such as retaining as much of the original structure as possible (including floors, walls, posts, beams, bricks, doors, etc...), installing low impact, energy efficient utilities and returning as much green space back to the urban property as possible (flower beds, green roofs, green walls, green houses) are just a few simple ways to prevent pollution/waste and create sustainability.

Again, thanks for the welcome, and we look forward to being a part of the activerain community.

Rob
