A Stager's Strategy on Black Friday Shopping

By
Home Stager with Creative Concepts-Home Staging and Contracting, Salem Oregon CCB #180695

A successful stager knows where to shop to find not only the great look, but for the best price.  Our business relies on finding items quickly and getting back to work.  Many times I'm carrying a picture I have to find matching towels for, or perhaps a curtain to match with pillows -- it's rare stagers shop empty handed.

Just ask a stager where to buy some cute accent pillows and be prepared for a 15 minute dissertation on styles, prices and availability.

Other stagers can empathize -- we rarely have just one cart.  We may go in for some new dish ware -- but I can guarantee they end up with a full cart, and maybe two.  Shopping at Home Goods - better take the big rig!!  A big sale at Pier One - yup, just keep those carts coming!

While I find it fun to shop on Black Friday for a few items, we think of it as more of a holiday outing than a shopping trip.  It's fun to shop when you aren't basing your success on getting those super specials (that run out before you get there).  So this stager's strategy this year is to shop for fun, but not for work . . . plus my family has grounded me from home decor stores saying they won't push multiple carts in the holiday crowd!

Happy Shopping!

HI MARGARET!

I refuse to get out there in the mayhem.  But, I'd like to know where you found the best bargains?  I'm sure you're a great shopper!!  Hope it went well!

Margaret I won't even go out today for fun.  I don't do crowd and lines very successfully any more.  Hope you enjoy the day!

I envy you being able to put everything together so to speak and spot something and know it fits somewhere - countless times I return most of what I buy IF I shop - see I despise shopping! I blame my mom for this - she was notorious for filling a cart and then putting everything back by the time she got to the register!  Surely we  save money that way!

Did I see you on the news this morning standing in line at midnight for the 4:00am store openings??? Ha Ha! There is absolutely no way you could get me to do that. Good luck....it's a jungle out there!

Margaret, I agree. I certainly don't want to be caught up in the hustle and bustle of christmas shoppers. I have found that some of these things you get online for the same price.

We are visiting relatives today and went to Costco, Home Depot and Safeway . . . no crowds, no lines, no craziness.

Margaret ~ I understand people have game plans for Black Friday, which, to me, is only worth doing if there is a specific item or items you want and it's a phenomenal deal (keeping in mind that most of the time the stores only have 5 of the item in stock for how many people standing on line?).  My strategy for Black Friday is to sleep late, savor my coffee and do things around the house to get ready for bringing the holiday decorations out.  I wouldn't even have gone out today except I got a staging deposit in the mail Wednesday and wanted to get it in the bank! : )

Margaret: I had to shop this morning to round out the Christmas decorations I needed for a Home Staging for the Holdiays job I was doing today. I went to Cost Plus at 7 AM. There were several people in the store with me, but it wasn't too crowded. I went for their 'buy one get one free' sale on Christmas ornaments. I avoided stores that sold electronics, but most other stores were not crazy crowded.

I couldn't even muster the strength to give shopping a go yesterday.  All the radio updates had me scared so I stayed in - I do not like to fight the crowds as I start to get real testy.
