~Reno Tree Lighting Kicks Off Holiday Season~

It was cold, dark and raining but that didn't stop the lighting of the 65-foot-tall giant sequoia  during the ceremony that took place Wednesday, November 26, 2008 in downtown Reno. The lighting of the tree kicks off the 2008 holiday season!

Bad weather did prevent the opening of the "Rink on the River"  that was scheduled to take place after the tree lighting. With inches of water on the rink it was impossible to skate on.

Luckily, the rain has passed and  the Rink is now open!  The outdoor ice skating rink is located at 10 N. Virginia Street in downtown Reno. For hours of operation visit www.cityofreno.com or call 775-334-2262. The cost is $6 for ages 13 years and up, $4 for youths and seniors and $2 skate rental.

West Street Market in Reno, Nevada

Another great was to celebrate the holiday season is with the West Street Market Grand Opening that will take place on December 6, 2008 in downtown Reno.

What is the West Street Market?

The market is designed to serve as a gathering place that will provide a unique experience centered around food, friends, shopping, entertainment and demonstrations. The focus of the food is homemade, fresh and local. The market will also serve as a place to find and buy unusual items, art and gifts. You will also find entertainment and demonstrations where you can learn new things from cooking to being a better steward to the environment.

This indoor market will begin with a pancake breakfast from 7a.m. to 10a.m. on Saturday, December 6th. The ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at 10.a.p. and photos with Santa will be available after. Some of the other festivities scheduled include: cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, face painting and more. For a detailed list of events click here or log on to www.cityofreno.com for more details.

The West Street Market is located between downtown Reno's West Second Streets. I hope to see you there!

Terrie,

That looks nice. Glad the weather cleared. Is the rink there all the time only only now? :)

Steve ~ The rink only runs from now until the end of FFebruary! After that, I have seen people roller blading out there, but you bring your own blades and skate as yo wish.

Terrie - It should be cold and dark for a tree lighting. Wish I could have been there.

Tom ~ LOL! OK, I guess you are right. It needs to be or should at least be cold and dark for a tree lighting but when you are including a free outdoor ice skating session is should be dry! Not raining!

We went but never lest the parking garage...thus the great picture!=)

Have a great evening.
