At approximately 5am this morning, at the Walmart store in Valley Stream, Long Island, New York shoppers lined up to get the Black Friday bargains.

But some of the would be shoppers got carried away with the thought of a good bargain, broke down the door and trappled to death one of the workers.

The 34 year old employee was knocked down and trappled to death by some 200 people, who took the doors off the hingles and stormed the store.

Other injuries inclued a pregnant woman, and a 43 yr old co worker. The woman and her unborn baby are okay. Three other shoppers where injured as well.

The store closed down until 1pm and then reopened.

Is a chance on getting that TV or computer worth a life? I am totally shocked at the behavior of people in the stores. When will people learn that you have to abide by rules to ensure the safety of all around you.

And yes, I too went out on Black Friday, but I was there at 10am instead of 5am and you know, some of those great bargains were still there.

Nancy,

I read this earlier on line and was disheartened -(I don't go into malls or shop with coercion).

Christmas should be about family not shopping to kill......I worked today because I had an offer come in.

Oh my heavens?! I was out early, and nothing like that in my area.  There is no bargain worth and injury much less a death.  Bless that employees family!

That is really terrible!  Now that worker's family is upset and not enjoying the day after Thanksgiving. Nor will they be happy for the remainder of the year. Just terrible.

Nancy this is so crazy, and to think a similar incident occurred in California.

I was really shocked when I read about it too. I can't believe that kind of crowd. Seems to me there should have been some kind of procedure for lining up. But who would have foreseen this happening?

How crazy?  Why on earth would people act like that.  The prices of these so called bargains will be there later in 2009 as the economy gets worse...

Wow, that's horrific. I hadn't heard about this yet. I can't believe how insane some people get about these sales. Personally, I did everything humanly possible to stay away from the malls today!

I was also terribly saddend by this news item. How important has shopping become? We do not live in a country where shortages of product would cause this. Just stupidity and carelessness. Bonnie

Nancy,

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the killed Wal Mart worker.  Senseless and shameful actions of adults.  We are hoping justice will be served to those responsible.

I am wondering if charges will be filed?  I think if that had happened to one of our family members, we would want charges filed...And it is not the stores fault really. But why do I see the store getting sued?...

I'm with Sherry, I see big problems for Wal Mart.  This is just insane, I remember the big sales in Newark and New York when you did have to run when the doors opened just to keep a head of the crowd.

The retailers create this situation to happen.  My wife got pushed down a couple years ago and got stepped on.  She was able to claw her way up though and get 1 of 10 Laptops they were advertising for a low price.  The retailers need to control the crowd instead of creating a "race to the counter".

I'm surprised more people do not get killed in the dash.

It makes me ashamed to call myself a member of the human race.

How can we as a society go so wrong as to value big screen TVs over another person's life? Where along the way of becoming adults did our values get screwed up? How in the hell do we view the world? Are we really that self contained and motivated by greed and consumerism or are we simply morons?

When I was younger I worked retail and had to work the day after Thanksgiving and was ran over by a shopper and their shopping cart while standing at the end of my check stand. The fact that the customer AND the company I was working for did nothing about the situation I quit that day and REFUSE to work retail again. I understand people are excited to save money on the things that they want, but the fact that people are so CARELESS is pathetic. Do they need to start treating customers like kindergartners, and only allowing a few at a time to go in with supervision? My heart goes out to the family of the man who was killed and the others who were hurt in the chaos.  For those involved in breaking the doors down and trampling the employee to death I hope you get what is coming to you. As an adult you should know better then to act like a child set an example to the youth!!!

This story was crazy.  I thought it was not true when I first read about it on AOL.
