As Twitter takes off in some circles, many of its adherents are abandoning blogging in favor of a "micro blogging" format. A micro blogger fires off short bursts of information (or "tweets")instead of carefully constructing blog posts.

On the HomeGain blog, Pat Kitano suggested to members of the HomeGain Agent Blogging Network who subscribe to AgentView to engage in more of a micro blogging style. (so far it doesn't look like any one has taken him up on it.)

I think that Twitter has a place, but it needs to be backed up by something more substantial than a 140 character post.  Twitter IS a great way to broadcast information... like advertising blog posts.

Louis, I have been a member of Twitter for about ayear. I don't get it. It looks like a huge IM party and frankly does not interest me at all. I don't care to follow or be followed. Maybe it's just an age thing:)

My biggest concern is that folks seem to spend a lot of time twittering. They do say you can get business but the question is how much business? Am I going to get multiple, very good leads, every day? I seriously doubt that. I do however get multiple leads everyday from blogging.

If you use twitter to broadcast your life to tell your followers everything you do, then it is a total waste of time. I suppose if you use it for informational purposes to keep propspects informed as a supplement it can be useful.

BB...  Brian Brady has 10,000 followers that are looking for one thing... daily rate information.  And they can click through to communicate with him.  Most of us aren't there, but I am trying to be the source for information about listings in my area...  so that those folks that are interested can click through to get more info.

I get more good links and more information on Twitter than I do anywhere now. No waste of time for me. I love it! Haven't had any luck trying to reach HomeGain.

Not interested in drizzles if they are automated.

Hi Louis, pardon the delayed response due to holidays... I addressed your article in part at Transparent Real Estate - micro-blogging on a blog hasn't happened yet, but it will.

Bryant, I have yet to meet somebody who understood Twitter's potential from day one. The misconception about Twitter is that, at first glance, it is a chat box or IM. I thought it was ridiculous too, particularly because I'm not a prolific chatter.

What Twitter really is - it's a profoundly effective broadcast tool. It's analogous to drip email marketing, which can only be distributed once per week at max, and usually to an audience that doesn't care to see it in their inbox. With Twitter, every subscriber has opted in with a "follow". Every tweet I make that provides a link averages about 45 clickthroughs on that one link alone. And I try to make all my tweets relevant and interesting to my network, not discuss what I'm having for lunch.

See tech maven Tim O'Reilly's article Why I Love Twitter and the NYT article on Twitter as a full fledged news platform to understand where micro-blogging and citizen journalism is headed.
