Many of our customers have described the viewing of the stone in our showroom “like going to a fine art gallery.”  Let Rock Tops Granite bring Mother Nature’s Art Gallery into your home.

Granite is ideal for rock tops countertops because of its durability and beauty. Adding granite to bathrooms, kitchens and bars rock tops countertops will add value and elegance to your home. There are many factors to consider with granite rock such as color, finish, edges and thickness, all of which you must understand before installation of countertops. Follow these steps to buy granite rock tops countertops, as well as consult or fabricator or installer.

1 – Look for the best value and avoid rip-offs - Most granite rock tops installers offer free in-home estimates schedule several to compare. The goal is to get the highest quality stone or rock tops for the lowest price. Ask for granite rock tops samples, pictures of completed work, and customer references. Read all the reports you can on Marble and Granite Fabricators.  Rock Tops Inc. publishes many reports on this.

2 - Choose a color that is compatible with the décor of your home - Granite rock tops is a natural stone, so color variation is common. No two granite rock slabs are alike; therefore, your granite rock tops countertop will not necessarily look like a showroom sample. At Rock Tops Inc. they have video showing step by step computer ran cuts.

3 - Understand that granite rock has imperfections that affect structural integrity (veining). The Rock Top stone has natural pits (fissures) and hairline cracks that add to its natural beauty. If you are concerned about the color and imperfections in your granite, keep looking and choose the slab that you are happy with.  Remember this is an investment that will last for many years to come.

4 – When choosing a sink style, whether a drop-in or under-mount, the granite fabricator will charge extra to make required cuts in your stone. Under-mount sinks require more granite work, resulting in additional cost. Provide your fabricator with sink templates; also purchase your sink before work begins.

5 - Choose a thickness. Granite countertops are typically referred to as 2 or 3 cm., or ¾ to 1 inches respectively. The more expensive granite countertops, which are 3cm, are stronger and more attractive, in comparison to the 2-cm.countertops, which usually require plywood supports and laminate edges.

6 – Decide on what type of edges you want. If you don't like any of the standard choices such as half-bullnose and bevel, ask your fabricator to custom design an edge. You may want an edge to complement the cabinet detail or another architectural feature of your home.

7 – Request a seamless installation of your countertops. The extra charge will be a worthwhile investment, especially since exposed seams in your granite countertop may cause water damage over time.

Tips & Warnings
•   Store heavy pots and pans in cabinets rather than on pot racks that hang over the countertop and use a cutting board to avoid chance of cracking the granite

•   Determine who will reseal the granite countertop. You should reseal the surface every few years for maximum protection from stains and other damage.

I had no idea, that granite fabricators could be unscrupulous...I mean, I thought granite was granite....it just goes to show, how people can get over, when the general public is uninformed... :)

That sounds like a very informative seminar.  I never knew buying granite was that involved.

Ralph,

Good points.  As a builder, I have a time of it to persuade owners that there is more to buying granite or any other solid-surface countertop than just price.

Rock is not just rock.
