While April celebrates fair housing month, national community development week and Earth Day-this month also marks financial literacy month.

As a mortgage professional where everyday I must assess people's ability to purchase a home or refinance - I find there is a great need for people to improve their financial literacy.  As a mortgage professional, we must review not only credit, but assets as well. I know basic concepts can go a long way and put you in a much better financial situation. It does not matter how much you earn....but how much you can keep and how much you can make that money grow. It is time we move away from being a nation of consumers with negative savings rates.

One such site promoting financial literacy is the http://www.themint.org/. It is  designed to provide tips and tools to families, teachers and kids on how to become more financially literate!

As you know must people tend to obtain their knowledge from home. This information  is not taught in schools.
