Church

Canterbury New Hampshire in Merrimack County is steeped in history. Canterbury was named for the Archbishop of Canterbury in England.

Canterbury was founded in 1727 and was originally a Trading Post where the Pennacook Indians came to trade. Canterbury was also a Militia Timber Fort. The fort was located on a hill near what is now known as Canterbury Center.

The population of Canterbury now numbers between two to three thousand people.
