On our trip to Northern California as we were coming down hwy 1 & 101 through Monterey we saw the strangest thing, deer feeding around the shoreline.

I have traveled up and down the west coast for many, many years and I have never seen deer around the ocean, it was quite a site to see. They were almost tame, and when I walked by them to take some photographs they just looked up at me and continued to eat.

Monterey Bay in California is a very beautiful part of the west coast and if you have never been there, it's a must see. Quite expensive to live there and what area isn't on the California ocean, but to travel through no problem.

There is a wharl with fine dining and a aquarium for individuals interested in viewing more sea life.

I agree with you Robert ~ You do not expect to see a deer along the Monterey Coast! I have never seen one either and I have taken the drive many of times! But what a beautiful sight and you were able to get a close up, awesome.

What a beautiful deer!  The deer here, in our state parks especially, do seem to get very used to people and let you get great photos like this.  What a beautiful place Monterey is, thanks for sharing it!

As always, your pictures are beautiful.  I've lived in California pretty much all my life and have never seen a deer near the ocean.

I had an eerily similar experience the first time I went through Monterey back in 1993. My friend there, who was graduating from the Army's Defense Language Institute, took me on the 17-mile drive where we saw lots of deer.

Russel - I have been on the 17-mile drive and there is a lot of wild life in there.
