I received the following report from Levine Breaking News - a great news feed that hits a few times each day - that stated the United States is officially in a recession that started a year ago.  This status was delivered today from the National Bureau of Economic Research, a committee of economists that dates business cycles.

According to their report - they found that:

"A peak in economic activity occurred in the U.S. economy in December 2007," the National Bureau of Economic Research said in a statement. "The peak marks the end of the expansion that began in November 2001 and the beginning of a recession."

Did we really need this report to tell us that our country is in a recession?  Yes, home sales here in Florida are up a little, but values are in the tank!  What's more - consumer confidence, which in my opinion is the key factor in determining whether we're doing well or not - is near all time lows!

I guess every major occurence needs official sancioning.  Now we have it.

Kevin, it is so funny that the governmental always comes up with something that everybody knows. That is a nice way to avoid mistakes.

They must think we are all stupid and they have to tell us this stuff.  If I wasn't told, I would think that the economy is fine.....could of fooled me.  Gotta love it.

Kevin - duh, what were they thinking a year ago - it took them that long to realize. I'm wondering what else will take too long - oh helping folks that are in dire need to keep their home.

Petra - I know, right?  Man, if money doesn't start funneling down to homeowners in trouble soon... things are going to stay ugly for a while.  The brain trust in DC just doesn't seem to get the fact that consumers won't spend if they're feeling the pinch from bad loans. If consumers don't spend... we don't get out of this mess!

If you ask me, consumers represent a group as a whole that is really "Too Big to Fail!"

Well, I'm glad they "announced" it so now we can worry. And I couldn't agree more about the consumer confidence, its crucial and extremely lacking right now.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the site, as well as your suggestions!
