Two Blackberry's side by side

I'm a Blackberry user.  I've got too much stuff in my pockets.

As a user of a Blackberry and a real estate agent, I often find my pockets crammed with stuff.  Keys, wallet, business cards, gum, my phone, my eKEY...you get the picture.  Sometimes I wish I could carry a purse, at least then I'd have room for more.  I guess I could carry one, but I think people might find it a bit strange to see.  Oh well, that's not the issue here.

Blackberry and GE Security eKEY have announced the eKEY Fob.  They actually have announced it before, but now it appears they have a more definitive timeline.  According to a recent email from GE Security, the eKEY Fob will be available mid-December.  So far they support the Pearl, Curve, and the 8800 series.  They will adding the Bold and Storm soon.  The Fob translates bluetooth signals into infrared, allowing the Blackberry to communicate with the lockbox.

In honor of the announcement, GE Security has a special offer.

For a limited time, agents who purchase a new Blackberry from Letstalk.com will receive a free eKEY Fob (or you can opt to receive a 4GB Sandisk MicroSD Card).  The eKEY Fob is listed as an approximately $50 value, so I guess that is the price it will be going for.  If you don't have a Blackberry and have been thinking about one, now is a good time to do it (offer expires December 31, 2008) - and the offer is good for all the major carriers (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Alltel).

YIPPEEEEEEEE!!!!  Don't know how I missed this one as I am a BB pearl lover from the word go but thanks Matt for the info!  You shouldn't carry a purse (people might talk) but this makes things worlds easier!  About a year ago I heard Houston was doing this and I was sooooo jealous!  Now we are w/them?  Yeah!  My sister and others in our office are treo lovers which I totally don't understand.  I think once you get a BB you are in love forever.  KM

Matt, thanks for the update!  I knew that the target date was December sometime but I didn't know just when they were coming out nor how they were going to work with the Blackberry!

I just don't get the concept.  One contraption for another.  I don't see the loss of devises in your pocket....just names.  FOB.........  It doesn't even sound right.

Matt - I have the Treo and have never been happy with it's quality. I have the insurance and they have replaced my phone 5 times for varies speaker problems. It sounds like a good time to try a Blackberry. Thanks for the information

Kristin - I'll remain purse-less.  For now.  I never liked the Treo much, played with one for a few hours and just found them uncomfortable.  I do love the Blackberry, except the fact that the email forces you to use the installed browser as opposed to OperaMini or others.  Its a bit frustrating.  I had seen talk about it, but this was the first I saw some actual time line.

Mara - Glad you enjoyed it.

Robert - And whatever you do, don't get the GPS package from your provider.  Go to www.nav4all.com and check out their system.  Its free and works great.  Why pay money for something from your provider that you can use for free?

Tony & Darcy - I wish they had given a definite date, but mid-December and the offer of the free one was good enough for to think it was worth it.

Tim - I do hate the fact that you need something else to carry with you, but it eliminates the need for the eKEY which is cool enough for me.  As for the word "fob" its a common term for things of this nature.

Unknown commentor - Five times?  Sounds like a really bad phone.  I've had some problems with my Blackberry, but they have all SIM card problems via AT&T and they have just given me a new one each time.  So far, my Blackberry has served me well.

Oh darn...I just bought a new BB. I'm on my 3rd one since they first hit the market.

On a separate note, I LOVE your profile info...Glad to meet a fellow Philadelphian. I live in NJ now, but I was born and raised in Philly and surrounding suburbs. I'm a Philly girl for life!

Amber - Thanks for the compliment, its always appreciated.  I wrote a post about it on AgentGenius not too long ago.  I wanted to write what I would tell people instead of crafting some dramatic speech that was perfectly worded.  Sorry to hear about living in NJ (PA joke, had to take it!).  I grew up in Norristown, just outside of King Of Prussia and lived in Philly, Norristown, and a bit further out Collegeville/Trappe/Royersford area.  I hated the cold.  If you're on Twitter you should connect with @billlublin my favorite Philly agent.

I have the fob, was beta testing it for Supra. The software is easy to use on the BB, a few quirks in getting it to pair up with the lockbox. But, I have problems with my cell phone pearing with my blue tooth in the car, so it might just be me.

Regardless, I am thrilled to be able to get rid of my palm FOREVER.
